New S/A XDS

I took a ride with my buddy today to pick up his new XDS. When we arrived our guy had 2 XDS's with consecutive serial numbers. I was not in the market for a compact 45 but my knees got weak after I fondled it and gave in to my weakness and bought one. I owned a Kahr PM45 so it's the best gun that I think would be fair to compare it too. The XDS feels slimmer and reminds me alot of a smaller walther PPS and like the PPS it has a nice quality feel to it. The grip is a little on the short side for me. I would prefer a longer grip with a 6rd mag instead of 5rd but that's just me. The grip length feels alot like the PM9. You guys with big hands might have a problem here. The plus side is you might get away with carrying in your pocket if you choose. I like the mag release button alot much better than the PM45 (which i was always hitting by accident) it does not require alot of authority to release it yet it releases the mags with great positive ejection. The location is perfect and I don't see the mag release getting hit by "accident" during a range session. The mags are typical springfield quality very well made and very strong spring pressure. The trigger feels the same as all XD's smooth crisp break. I don't know when I can't get to the range but I will put this gun through it's paces and try and post my results. My concern with any compact 45 is their ability to eject live rounds. I'm not knocking Kahr I own quite a few of them but the PM45 was problematic when it came to ejecting a live round. So far my only issue is the grip length but I'm sure(if not already) there will be a pinky extension by the aftermarket folks soon. Plus one pinky ext will do me fine. I will be watching for this gun in the 9mm version springfield did their homework here and they are paying attention.

I'm nuts about my PM9... but the XDS sure has my attention.
Let us know how it shoots. I'm afraid of it for now

The PM9 is a great gun I had a PM45 too but shooting a 45 from a 3" barrel can be a handful. Its not a range gun so its expected. I can tell you for sure that when they do come out with 9mm xds alot of folks are going to ditch those rugers LC9 and kahrs and M&P shields. I have tried them all so far they are not going to hold a candle to this gun as far as carry/concealment. I'm ging to try to get to the range on tues/wed if i can.
