Please satisfy my curiosity. What is the distinction between Member and Junior Member.

Just the number of posts. I think its around 25 posts (or so) and then the software makes you a member. Oh yeah, members get one official "get out of jail free" card. ------------------ "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes" [This message has been edited by DC (edited 01-31-99).] |

I think it has to do with the number of times you have submitted a thread or replied to a thread.

Membership requires 15 posts on TFL (DC's correct in that the default number is 25...we recently lowered it). Not my idea...it's built into the software.

Yeah, preferably a Smith & Wesson decoder ring - then maybe I could understand their labrynthine "model number" system!

Thanks for the information. I guess I'll have to post more so I can get one of those decoder rings. No, I want one of those GET OUT OF JAIL CARDS. I've seen times when one of those would come in real handy.

This T-Shirt thing:
If I front the $2-$3 *thousand* dollars for a hundred T's, plus art, logo and printing...am I gonna see interest dry up when I have to charge $15-$20 per? That money could go a *long* way to promoting this site. Rich [This message has been edited by Rich Lucibella (edited 02-03-99).] |

Rich -
A thought on the money side of t-shirts. Post the final design/logo for 30 days, requesting orders. For all who are interested get your money in, with sizes, and number requested by the 35th day via check or money order. Then order the shirts. If insufficient numbers respond, to get the posted deal, you can either call it off or raise the price. Again post the question for replies. You can handle the money, by holding the checks, and only cashing them when the order is ready to go in. This process is longer, but saves capital, and lowers the risk to you financially. By the way, sign me up for 2 XXL, 2 XL, and 3 L. They will make great gifts to my shooter friends who do/have done me favors (plus remind them to get signed up with TFL )! ------------------ Freedom is not Free [This message has been edited by ATM (edited 02-03-99).] |

Rich, you've probably already considered this, but I have had great luck getting things sponsored in the past. IF you'll be accepting advertising on TFL someday, perhaps there's a company or two (or ten) who would just love to help us with the t-shirts. TFL logo on the front, advertising on the back? Perhaps a slogan on the front 'TheFiringLine.Com - take your best shot!' or some other cute / clever eyecatcher, with your graphic in the middle of the back and surrounded by company logos for H&K, Sig, Glock, Busmaster, Colt, Para-Ord and so on. For those companies this would take a miniscule investment.
It would be a pain in the a** for you, but ATM's idea could work as well. On the other hand, perhaps a t-shirt company you could trust would handle the admin? Whatever you decide, don't take on this additional brain damage if it doesn't fit with your plans for TFL. The last thing any of us want to see is for you to get discouraged with this site. You and your crew have created a very special meeting place here. Thanks again. |

ATM-
A worthwhile suggestion....I've already enlisted some resources to help look into the project. Jeff- Thanks. I had a discussion with a marketing guy at SHOT yesterday who is interested in taking over the Home Page project...he also did The *outstandng* BlackHawk site. Anyway, he got on me about turning TFL into a commercial enterprise....again. I've concluded that this just isn't going to happen, unless it becomes a *real* financial strain. While I'm a needy capitalist like everyone else, and I embrace the profit motive, it would require commercializing the site. I'm dead set against that, even though others, including BladeForums.Com and GlockTalk have done it quite tastefully. We'll see about the T's. Ok, it takes 15 posts to grow up to a real member from a junior member. Is that 15 new threads submitted or is that new threads and answers to old threads?
P.S. if you send HS a T-shirt, put a dead kangaroo on the back. (;-D |

HS, I appreciate your fondness for Para-Ordnance, but I could have lived a long, happy and productive life without knowing about that particular t-shirt!

Hey Rich! I'm just posting this to get me one step closer to full blown Member status but I had to give you a "heads-up" on the GlockTalk link you posted a couple of messages ago 'cause it doesn't fly..... Should be <a href="http://glocktalk.com/">GLOCKTALK!<a/>
Obviously unintentional! Thanks for the great job you're doing. [This message has been edited by G36 (edited February 24, 1999).] |

Thanks, G36.
I believe it's fixed now. BTW- the error in your own HTML code is the reason we discourage use of HTML and ask that you use UBB Code instead. (See the faqs tab on the Forum Summary Page). It's pretty easy to screw up UBB software with a misplaced HTML character. Rich [This message has been edited by Rich Lucibella (edited February 24, 1999).] |
