Newbie SKS grenade launcher?

Hi folks. I just got into this hobby so forgive my ignorance. I recently bought a Yugo SKS. When not launching grenades, does the GL end serve as a suppressor for regular use?

It's just a bung on the end of the barrel that has a larger OD to slide a grenade over. It doesn't do squat, functionally speaking, when shooting bullets.

I have one and I love that launcher. It looks cool. I never try to improve on $120.00 out the door weapons!
