savage 93 17 hmr

just bought a savage 93 in 17 hmr. problem is I can't get the bolt out per manual. anybody have a solution for this or do I need to send it back to savage?

I assume this is what you've tried: remove mag, lightly pull bolt to rear till it stops, take safety off, pull trigger. The only thing that holds the bolt in is the trigger, at least on mine. If this is not the case with yours, something has changed.

The manual says to put the safety on to clear the gun and dosen't mention to take the safety off before you pull the trigger, Once you are sure the gun is clear of any ammo then take the safety off pull the trigger and the bolt should slide out.

got the bolt out once I placed safety in firing position
