300gr. 44mag & 45colt

I have some Win. 296 & some Sierra JSP 300gr. bullets to load up in both the 44mag & 45colt. For Rugers.
I've loaded Speer & Nosler behind 21grs of 296 .& Hornady XTP's behind 19grs. In 44 mag.
And in 45colt Speer 300's behind 22grs. of 296.
But I have no data for Sierra 300gr. bullets.

Rule of thumb when subbing a similar bullet in a known good load is to back off 10% and work up. If the bullets have similar sectional density you'll often have similar results. These loads look pretty close to max and you may have better results significantly below the "starting loads" listed for the "Ruger Only" loads. 20grs 296 under a 300 gr XTP gives me all the accuracy I can ask for in my 45 Colt RBH and all the recoil I want, and then some.

Years ago I gave the Sierra 300's a good work over IN MY Ruger Redhawk in 44 magnum. I have the data that Sierra gave me at the time,

Cases - Winchester
Primer - CCI-350
H-110 Start 18.6 Max 22.6

2400 - Start 16.7 Max 20.8

Velocity 900 to 1150

THE ABOVE LOADS ARE FROM OLDER TEXT AND SHOULD NOT BE USED UNLESS CHECKED AGAINST NEWER DATA, OR CONSULTING THE MANUFACTURER BEFORE USING.

Bear in mind when I got the above loads H-110 and 296 were totally different critters. I personally would just give Sierra a ring and ask to speak to one of the technicians about some load data. They were always VERY helpful for me when I called.

That's what I was thinking somewhere between 22grs. & 19grs.
Thanks

I have fired the Sierra 300 grain JSP using H110 powder and Winchester primers in my Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt. Very clean burning and a stout but manageable recoil.

I don't disclose my loads on a forum. But, I have loaded 300 gr. bullets for my .44 mag. successfully. Be advised they are a hard recoiling round, not fun to shoot, IMHO.
As suggested, call the Sierra technicians, a good and free service.
