AST Bear Slug Load-specific

OK, I give up. I've been trying to find out the specific slug load used by Alaska State Troopers, or Conservation Officers for bear medicine.

Sure is a ton of "They use slugs" as if it didn't matter which. Some have said Brenneke slugs, but without the specifics.

If anybody happens to know the specific 12 ga. shotgun slugs they're issued, I'd appreciate it. I'd guess 3" Brenneke of some type. Or maybe they take on Grizzlies with 2 3/4" Brennekes--1 1/8 or 1 oz.

Or maybe they can use slugs of their choice.

Or some might know what Conservation Officers might be issued in the lower 48 in Grizzly country.

Brenneke's site shows the 2 3/4" 1 1/8 oz. short mag. Special Forces slug at 34" of gelatin penetration and claim it's the deepest penetrator out there.

Dixie makes 12 ga. slugs that are 730 grains at 2000 fps! Shooting those might be as bad as getting hit by the bear.

Haven't seen penetration or performance of the 3" Black Magic in gelatin. Anybody seen it?

OK, I'm getting carreid away with the questions. What do you all say?

seems like

I've read Brenneke, somewhere. When my outfit supplied bear guards for an Alaska oil spill, they arrived and were issued shotguns. (dang I did not get selected)

I have a bud who worked the Alaskan NP for a spell I will check with him..

I was told by a Trooper, who I did not know, that they use Brenneke Black Magic 3" slugs. A local gun shop corroborated this information later.

Thanks, Isk.

I was checking out Dixie's 730 gr. load @ 2000 fps. WoW!
That's about 1 2/3oz. It's a duplication of the old British Paradox cordite load used in brass cases. The earlier black powder version was 1000 fps. The Dixie load uses modern components.

I have a box in front of me right now, 2 3/4 inch, 490 grain 1 1/8 oz, "Mag Load" it says on the box. Below the UPC code it has the numbers 211 54 09. It is possible that some of the wildlife Troopers use 3 inch, IDK, never saw them in use. Some of the wildlife Troopers use an assortment of non standard firearms that come from evidence, I have a buddy who was carrying a Reminton 600 in .350 Rem Mag.
