16 inch Marlin Question

A while back I found a .44 mag 1894s with a 16 inch barrel stamped "The Marlin Limited" on it. Serial N. indicated it was made around 1996 and I really like it (very handy) but I don't see anything with that short length barrel on Marlin's website today.

I wanted a .357 in the same configuration so I picked up a 16 inch Rossi M92 (had to sort through the LGS to make sure I got one that fed well w. snap caps and dummy rounds and where the action felt right) and it seems pretty nice as well but I still like the side ejection and easier take down of the Marlin (was going to take down the 92 then thought better of it...)

My question is, did Marlin ever make a 16 inch .357 lever action? I'm thinking the .44 16 inch might have been a limited run since I've never seen another like it and so far my web searches for a .357 have come up pretty slim. If they did, I'll keep an eye out for one.

Not 100% on this but it seems like I remember a Marlin .357 with a 16" barrel. Somebody else on here probably will be sure. I always liked the shorter verisons. Just a little handier to me.

Marlin made a limited run of stainless 1894 with 16" barrels in 357 mag, 41 mag, 44 mag, and 45 colt. There were only 500 of the 357. Dont know of any other 16" 357 from them. They are hard to find and usually cost a bit but they are fun to shoot. I got one of the 41 mag years ago and its the only one I have seen in person.

I had one in .45 and someone else wanted it more than I did, so I sold it. A year or so ago the new Marlin catalog had 16" carbines in it, but this was about the time the manufacturing moved to Remington and quality took a dive and I don't think any were actually produced. Maybe in the future!
There were also 18" stainless .357s, the CSS, that were produced in bigger numbers I believe.

Yes, Marlin made 16" SS .357's (almost bought one a few years ago), yes they have some advantages, also some disadvantages. Would I loose sleep about finding one if I already had a 16" Rossi? Nope.

I don't know the Rossi well enough yet (only got it recently) to make a good comparison, but what would the disadvantages of the Marlin be? I love my 1894s but don't use it so much that I've noticed much in the way of flaws.

For one Winchesters and clones have a much lighter, slimmer and handier feel even in equal barrel lengths.

Marlin made approx 1500 .M1894S Limited 16'-er's in 1996 (only).

FWIW, Marlin also made 16" (16-1/4", actually) M1894's in .44 Mag (ported) as the M1894P, from Y2K-2002.

The .357 Marlin M1894CP, with the same 16-1/4" length ported bbl, was made 2001 & 2002.

Not to mention Marlin also made the 18-1/2" & 20" barreled M336 .44's of the mid-60's.
