Plastic fantastic, what gun next?
I have quite the affinity for polymer framed handguns. I love how they feel in the hand, the weight savings and the worry free feeling of the frame never rusting. I think I have most of the more popular players covered. So far I have:
HK USP HK P30L HK P2000sk Beretta PX4 Storm Glock 19 Walther P99 (x2) I now have a Smith & Wesson M&P half paid for and should be picking it up right before Christmas. Now I'm looking ahead to next year and thinking about what I might want next. The Springfield XD is the most likely candidate but wanted to get some opinions on what else I might want to consider. I live in California and we're not allowed to defend ourselves out here so carrying is not a consideration. I shoot mostly 9mm and .45 so I'd consider anything available in either caliber.

Steyr M9-A1. I have the M40-A1 and I just love the whole feel of the gun. Very ergonomic. Extremely accurate, too. The trapezoid sights are awesome and I got mine for $350 from CDNN a while back.
They come in 9mm, .357 SIG, .40S&W

The XD is a great choice...but if you want something to carry easily you might want to look into a kahr. A sub-compact Glock is always a nice choice too.

I can't over-recommend the XD, its a fantastic pistol. Have a 5" Tactical in .45ACP, great shooter, no malfunctions of any kind.
You already have pretty much everything made polymer but a Taurus OSS, XD, or FN. Sig's P232 is a slick little 380 with a polymer frame.

I'd go with FN. Awesome gun, never a hiccup from my FNP-40.

How about the Sig pro SP2022? I keep hearing it's the most underrated Sig available.
BTW, out of those you listed above, which do you take the range the most? |

Xd or XdM. I love polymer guns. I was a long time glock fan until I shot the xd series. Better ergonomics, higher capacity, better trigger, you will be happy. And don't be to shocked of you sell off your old glock.

My local gunshop has a Sig Pro SP2022 in stock that I have been drooling over for the last couple of weeks. Great looking gun and feels great in hand.

I've got a 1911 in my collection now (Nighthawk GRP Recon) and doubt I'll be adding another. I take the P99 with me the most, which is why I bought a 2nd one.
The Sig 2022 seems like a possible alternate though I've never been to crazy about Sig triggers. I strongly considered an FN 5.7 but I'm not really sure what the point is with that round (especially since one of the main selling points, 20 round mags, can't be had here). Thanks for the suggestions so far, I hadn't really considered Kahr, CZ or Steyr before but I'll look around to see which local shops carry them.

Kahr, possibly. Or a Kel-Tec. P9, P11, P3AT (though .380 ammo is hard to find nowadays). A P9 would be very inexpensive to obtain, very small to carry if necessary, and use ammo you already have on hand. A new class of handgun to compare against your current hoard. |

I was highly impressed with the Glock 19 that had the 3.5# disconnector. You said polymer, but I also suggest a 1911 of some sort, even just a RIA tactical or Springfield. |

Some parts of California, it is possible to get a permit. California may change for the better, someday. It may be necessary for self-preservation to carry during a catastrophic period. Nothing wrong with having a gun you CAN conceal discretely, even if you don't have a permit. Not endorsing blatant lawlessness... but if San Andreas lets go while Yellowstone blows and a comet flattens Hawaii, it might be nice to have a pocket pistol to keep the panicked mob off your back. Or something a little less tragic but still destructive to day-do-day law and order. |

Love my XD's. Go with the XDM if you are not worried about carrying it.
Happy shooting, Beentown

I'll echo austinking, I've shot the xd 45 with the long barrel and man that is one accurate easy to shoot weapon. I've got an MP40 that I love, but kinda wish I'd have gotten the XD45....

Do you like your Beretta PX4? How about the subcompact variant?
I love my PX4 SC in 9mm, and it can accept the higher capacity full-size PX4 mags. |
