Best 7.62x39 hunting round?

Im going for russin boar soon.I have some 125gr.wolf soft points in stock?That may work just fine?But there are many other choices??

I've been VERY impressed with the performance of the remington core lokts, 125 gr. moving at about 2300 fps at the muzzle. Out to 100 yard it'll do good. Past that, the round is just spent no matter who makes it.

Remingtons the only ones making factory hunting rounds other than wolf that i'm aware of. Would be worth checking black hills to see if they load anything. Premium lead makes all the difference. In this round, even more so. Good luck..J.R.

I haven't shot any of 'em but CorBon makes a 150gr X39 cartridge, supposedly good. should be for the $$ they sell for.
I load my own 150gr. Speer HotCor for my Mini30.
I have a 4X scope on mine so I'll take 150 yd shots at a still or slow moving target.

I have some boxes of Winchester 7.62x39. I do have problems with the brass casings in my SKS. When the casing would get ejected, it would take out a gouge from either the rim, or half way up the casing. One of those small brass chunks got lodged in my trigger assembly, and my gun started double firing. Rapid firing is not allowed at the range I go, so after the second double fire in a row, I had to stop and pull it apart to see what was going on.

I have 7 boxes left, and I'm not going to to use it in my SKS. I'm going to stick to Wolf Steel Cases.

From what I've been told, the American made 7.62 is ever so slightly differetn and is made for an american made gun, like the Ruger Mini 30. And the Russian stuff is for the russian guns.

I think you're right gustav, the U.S made ammo and firearms are .308 and the foreign stuff is .311 if memory serves. It's not supposed to cause any trouble, suffering accuracy was the main gripe.

the Winchester SP X39 slugs are .310 dia. they shoot good in my Mini30, but the slug failed (came apart) in one doe I took that I recovered the slug parts from.
dead is dead of course but I don't consider the Win SP to be suitable for use on a large buck if a quartering shot presented. the other doe I took (I use my 30 to fill my doe tags usually) was a neck/base of skull shot and didn't recover the slug. it did expand with massive trauma however, DRT.
useing them on large wild/feral hog may be risky with body/boiler room shots. I don't know use your own judgement. I have taken 2 hog with C&B revolvers, one small one (DRT from conical slug head shot out of '58 Rem loaded hot) and another fairly large sow ( I shot too far back on a moveing target but still drilled both lungs - had a long track to find and still blowing blood when I found so another shot to base of skull/neck for a coup, shot with a ROA loaded hot w/a slug)
also I took a fairly large boar with my Marlin Camp .45acp loaded with a 185gr Golden Sabre +P handload. shot hit the skull behind the eye knocked off a sizeable chunk of skull and brain tissue DRT.
the SKS and Mini30 are suitable for use on feral/wild hog IMO, due to fast handling a good choice I think.

The russin boars are 150lbs to 250lbs.The outfitters are-hunt wild hill.com these pigs get big.Im gonna compare the remington core loc vs. the corbon.I like the bigger head on the corbon to help penatrate hide and bone.Plus corbon has always made hot ammo.

Both the corbon and the remington ammo are 125 gr. i think. Here is a 154 gr. soft point from wolf...over 2,000fps and 1500ftlbs. Might be worth comparing..http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=92049

the Cor-Bon are 150 gr jsp @ 2300 fps. they are expensive but you won't find a better hunting round for the x39. i know how they work on whitetails & i'd imagine they would be very effective on hogs.
