Unique powder in the Dillon
Just came up with a bunch of Unique, been loading pretty much ball powder in my 650 dillon, have found that it meters out quite well, my question is have any of you Dillon progressive users used flake powder, such as unique and how consistant were the charges?

I don't have a Dillon, but Unique has always metered poorly in any equipment I have tried. It is the only real disadvantage of the "new and improved" Unique.

I've had problems with it before. But now I'm wondering if it was "static."

Meters fine. Keep the powder column up over half way, if you're worried about it.

Works well for me.
I have loaded MANY thousands of rounds with Unique on my Dillon 550B. I have four measures, and Unique has metered fine through at least three of them. The fourth has perhaps been used only for rifle powders.

I've used lots of Bullseye in my Dillon with no problems and see no reason Unique shouldn't work as it does fine in my Lyman 55.

I have had excellent results with Unique. The powder measure on my RL550B throws my charges within +/- 0.1 of a grain all the time.

I'm digging this thread up because Unique drives me nuts.
Like I posted earliar, I've had problems in the past and gave up on Unique. Then I tried it again and it was ok, for about half a lb. If its not the press, Unique has got to be one of the most sensitive powders to moisture. I picked up a lb of it about a month ago, to give it a try, and it metered for the first 300rds flawlessly. The last 300rds I loaded up were inconsistant. I ended up pulling 190rds because I was getting from 5.9gr to 6.8gr while trying to meter out 6.5gr. I pulled out the remaining WST stored in the same exact location as the Unique and it metered flawlessly. I've even had it in my basement longer than the Unique. I think I'm going to go with Bullseye next.

Worked well in my Dillon in its 450 incarnation, and in my Uniflo.
Like others have said, thousands . Wish I had a nickle for every one... I eventually switched to AA-5, but I'd not hesitate to load Unique again. Tom

Wow, that reported charge weight variation is the largest I've ever heard of.
I never worried about Unique varying =/- .3 gr in my pistol charges because the velocities seem unaffected. One writer has opined that volume seems more important for Unique than the actual mass (weight)--the characteristics seem to offset the weight with faster burn if one charge is a bit more fluffy, so to speak.

I WANT WSL BACK..........
Switch to easy-metering Universal Clays for ballistic equivalence without the variationfrustration.

I've been trying to get my reloads up to par with American Eagle factory ammo. I haven't gotten it right yet.
