Armalite Ar-10 vs M&P Ar-10
So I have an M&P AR-10... wondering how it compares in construction too the Aramalite.
I found this free float tube, I am wondering if it will fit. I think it will, because their construction looks so similar, and I just dont think their site has been upgraded because the M&P is so new.. http://model1sales.com/index.cfm?fus...TOKEN=84026110 Having a hard time finding one that is in stock, that doesnt have rails on it. This is perfect and the price is great! |

AR-10 is a ArmaLite trade name. Only ArmaLite makes a AR-10, they make the AR-10A and AR-10B, different magazines.
Your "M&P AR-10" is actually called "M&P10" by Smith & Wesson. A new 7.62 on a already crowed 7.62 AR market. S&W has been slow about releasing specs on the M&P10, I don't know what fits it? Is it a DPMS clone? Model 1 sales has been good with me. I haven't bought that much from them. |

DPMS pattern guns use a different barrel nut then Armalite pattern guns. You will need to know what pattern gun the MP10 is and you will want to contact Model 1 Sales to find out what all that FFT will fit.

Personally, I'd stay away from Model1sales.
Do a Google of them to read about their history. |

I would recommend you wait until you have hard facts about the barrel fitment of the upper receiver, contact S&W and check if it is DPMS or Armalite compatible. I would contact the specific manufacturer of whatever free float tube you are going to use and find out if it will fit the M&P10. And if you buy one make sure whomever you get it from will take it back if it does not fit.

Dude, not to be a douche, but when I opened the link it says in red right beneath the item name "For Armalite AR-10 Rifles ONLY".
I'm suspecting this would not fit your M&P, but thats just a guess.

In my first post
"I just dont think their site has been upgraded because the M&P is so new.." The M&P10 is new this year after the SHOT show. Its modeled after one of the other AR-10s just dont know what one yet. If its modeled after the armalite it would fit. Maybe its not and their site is accurate still though. IDK |

It's highly possible that someone else is making that rifle for S&W and they are just putting their name on it. So find out if S&W is making the rifle or if not who is and go from there.

You'd need to use SR25 pattern parts not AR-10 pattern parts for your rifle.

It has a mid length gas system as well so that would need to taken into consideration.

So this is what I did last night. Forgive me for not thinking of this sooner, but, partially disassembled one of each. It looks like I might be able to use ar-15 stuff on this.
Please correct me if I am wrong I have never modified either type of these guns. but the handguards at the ends look to be the same. I dont know how a free float tube attaches but from what I saw it looked pretty universal |

Changes may be more than handguards.
Hopefully S&W made its M&P AR-10 compatible with AR-15 parts. Same pins, roll pins, trigger, sear, springs, buffer tubes, buffer, buffer spring, bolt & bolt carrier. Ditto with its collapsable stock and all the tools association with working on the AR.

The RE and buffer/spring is a compatibility problem because of the longer bolt carrier for the 7.62. The AR15 RE/stock is useable with the correct length buffer and spring. I don't think you could use the same BCG with both 5.56 and 7.62
As far as I know all 7.62 AR's share AR15 pins/springs/fgc/safety/grip. Most have a proprietary mag release and bolt catch. Initially most used AR15 mag and bolt releases but had reliability issues. Both DPMS and ArmaLite are proprietary, and I assume LMT/KAC are too. |
