new gun shooting far left.

Took my mini 14 out to the range for the first time. Its a newer model with the heavier barrel. Functioning fine but shooting way off to the left. I had to move the rear sight almost all the way to the right to compensate. Only ran around 16 rounds through it. Using winchester white box 5.56 fmj 55 grain. Do I need to run more round through it or what? The grouping is consistant just way off to the left.

Well, yeah you see, like I said I didn't catch that on my phone. When I google the forum it had a link for "The semi automatic forum" and it didn't specifically mention handguns. I clicked the link and started a new thread thinking it was the semi auto rifle area.

Anyhow, wouldn't the same principles apply as its really only about barrels thou handgun barrels have a tendency to be a bit shorter I imagine.

Were you shooting off of a rest? At what range (distance)?

I'd say a good 5 inches, the target was however off to my left a bit, it was a little windy that day too but not too bad. Let me add this as well, I had the bolt open. Holding the gun in the center of my chest pointed straight out, I was looking through the open bolt at the breach end where the round inserts. Lining it all up, looking down the gun pointed way from me the rear sight was not aligned with the breach hole, the barrel or the front site at all. Using the sight to shoot even with the rear sight so far out of alignment the bullets were going where the sights lined up. Just that the rear sight didn't line up with the barrel.

That is the exact gun I have. Why is it that you have to do this???

Examine the front sight blade and see if it is centered in the mounting. You may be able to correct your problem by moving the front sight blade to the left.

Likewise, check the rear sight mounting and see if it is centered on the action. You may be able to keep the aperture more centered in the mounting by drifting the rear sight to the right.

However, if that puts the front blade or rear sight body too 'far' to the left or right, probably the sights are mis-aligned with the action and barrel.
