First whitetail hunt(at age 28)
never been hunting, and my father in law talked me into going out with him with his 270 weatherbymag.I had the gun,it was only 1.5 hours into opening day when an 8 point stepped out and began to come up a hill where we were.It was about 40 yards away and he was saying"get it! get it!"really quietly,so I pulled up the gun carefully(we were in a 1 person blind)and lined up the scope and pulled the trigger as it was coming straight up the hill at us.Thought I missed cause of the adrenelin, but then it tipped backwards and dropped like a sack of tators, back leg barely twitching.Front on shot, while skinning, heart was gone, just gel.

luck
i will admit that I had luck on my side,he gave me a good 20 seconds for a shot and was really close and happened to never look my direction. It was my father in law really doing the hunting, blind placement and pointing it out.I was just the trigger man

Good shot, rookie!
A buck in the scope will really get the heart pumping, won't it. I have killed 90 deer and it still gives me quite a rush to see that deer. My heart is beating so hard, I swear the deer could hear it. |

Great going and congrats on your deer. Even though you started deer hunting later in life you have many years of great hunting ahead of you. Now you will be hooked on deer hunting for life........

my father in law knows what he is doing,he set me just right and hunted through me,and sent me back up to the blind while he gutted it on the ground, saying"iv'e seen SO many deer come back through while gutting,so shoot another one when it comes"that didnt happen, but I am overly satisfied with my 1 deer anyways.I now got my safety license and will be by myself this season.I won't forget what he showed me.

Congrats on your first deer. I didn't start hunting till I was 25 or so and my first deer was an incredible experience. Stick with hunting, you'll learn a lot about nature and friendship.

Now, you need to learn how to gut a deer.
Next you need to learn how to skin and quarter a deer. Next, how to cut steaks, and make sausage. Then you will be an official deer hunter. |

That is so weird, I have an 8 point set with one broken tine too, and I mounted it on the velvet too (in red, tho)...

Ninja, My first 3 deer began at 11. I carried my cousins Michigan back tag as we looked similar with the descriptions and were 8 months apart... I head shot my first 3 before grampa asked why I kept missing. I said I hit right where I was aiming. He informed me of the kill zone and how he wanted to surprise me with a mount. He said none of them 3 were worth takin' to the the taxi man. To this day I have never considered payin' for a mount. I hang the antlers or hog heads on fence posts, rafters etc. until the rats knock it down and the dogs get to them...:barf:

I finally remembered to measure mine; it's only about 9.5 inches inside spread, so yours must be the older cousin...
