Blued SS

This might be a stupid question, but when looking at a new barrel, what's the biggest difference between SS and Blued SS?

Obviously, there is a color difference (does the Blued SS actually have a bluish look to it?), but it has more to do with rust and weather variants right?

Other than appearance, there is no difference between a bright/uncoated stainless barrel and one that has been coated.

extra info

I have barrel hardchromed; I have one barrel finished (on the outside) with NP3.

The finishes resist wear.
