What's 'wrong' with this picture.

I was at a hospital earlier today and they have a 'support our troops' tree. Next to it was this banner.

I did a double take when I saw it and had to snap a pic.

Not a U.S. uniform.

The soldier's picture has also been reversed. The AK forward sling attachment should be on the left side of the forearm, not the right side.

Not to mention the uniform and the load bearing equipment are out of date. The LBE doesn't even look right.

He didnt learn how to tie the laces like that in the military.

The closest that guy got to the military is the surplus store.

My guess is some commercial company used a male model and a wardrobe person who doesn't have a clue. You might want to let the hospital know they got snookered.....

just out of curiosity I would like to know who made such a sign and if they are selling them to make a profit to businesses.

They need to be ripped a new one if such is the case.

No that's correct, IIRC they used the 'f' in place of the 's' as we know it.

But I was particularly interested in seeing the guy carrying an AK.

That is correct, f and s were used interchangeabley back then, as well as u and v.

I thought that might be an AK also, but if you take a closer look, it doesn't look like it. Barrel is too long for one thing, and the stocks don't look like AK stocks. Its certainly not an AR type weapon. I think it's some kind of photoshopped weapon. The guy seems to be a lefty from where the pistol is holstered.

Looks like an RPK to me.

I think that could be a photo of a soldier from Romania, or one of the other Eastern European nations that have emulated our infantry gear while keeping most of their older small arms.

The boots troubled me since I first seen this in the night...

It just hit me... He is nothin' but a model... He didn't understand the blousing strings so the pants are tucked in his dern boots...

When set as my desktop the helmet looks like a cartoon copy and paste.

No idea about any of that other stuff, I couldn't get past the flag. The s is a non issue, it was called a long s as opposed to the short s and was influenced by French, German and Latin usage. The English dropped it before we did, we dropped it about 1810 give or take a few years. They commissioned an artist who had absolutely zero qualifications to do a work of this kind and the people who commissioned it were as ignorant as the artist was. A sad commentary on our public school system.

Yep. Those boots are troubling. They're brand spankin' new -- not a crease, not a scuff mark... never been worn before, probably never been outside.

The fs is still in use in modern German, where we would use a double s.

English was derived from the Angles, a Germanic tribe (the Saxons, as in "Anglo-Saxon," were also a Germanic tribe). Middle English, a la Chaucer, is very, very similar to German.

We may have dropped the fs in 1810, but at that time the British monarchy still mattered (as opposed to being quaint figureheads), and they were Hanoverian (German).

Enough for the etymology lesson...

I could see the people who made the sign not knowing diddly about US military uniforms, weapons and gear, but I can't understand how they could screw up the US flag.

Well, I can... they were probably products of a PC public education system.

After reading your statement I walked around the university lab I work in,,,
There were 6 students and I asked them each these questions:

How many stars are on our flag and how many stripes are on our flag?

Only two of the six knew it has 50 stars and none knew how many stripes.

It's sad but there is the answer to your statement.
