How Often?

How often do you go hunting? Any kind of hunting?

I hunt approximately 50 times a year. I am counting any time I step out of the home with any firearm. It could be rabbits or dove or deer or whatever. I am not counting plinking adventures. I am also not counting hikes while carrying a firearm.

So, how often?

Not nearly as often as I would like. I usually hit dove opener, Chukar in Nevada, Quail in California, a pig hunt in Central California, and the occasional varmint(coyote and/or ground squirrel) outing. If things go real well, I will go Mearns Quail hunting in Southern Arizona- Tucson-Patagonia-Sonoita-Nogales area...

Haven't been hunting in two years. The withdrawl nearly killed me at first but it used to be every pheasant, duck, and deer season since I was 17. Before that it was squirrel every year from 2 until 12. Then deer and squirrel/rabbit until 14. Then added pheasant until 17. So needless to say, before college I was out in the woods for about 3 months at a time total (no out for a day and back home, out for 3 months total)

When I'm not deployed "hunting" for Uncle Sam, I spend around 70+ days a year hunting.

Added up,

Predator hunting- 20 times a year
Dove 6
Duck/goose 6
Turkey 10 (including scouting)
Hog only 20
Elk 8
Whitetail 60
Squirrel 6
Rabbit 6
Running Traps 22

Fishing not included

Been married twice, can't understand why they keep leaving.

I count a 7 day road trip to hunt as 7 days. I also count a hunt in the evening after work as a hunt.

Just Started

Other than the time I was in The Corps hunting people, I only started deer hunting last year and so far, squirrel this year. I bought a Mossberg turkey gun on sale at Dick's but didn't get the license and so haven't gone BUT I would go every day if I could! We (my fellow New Hunter, Ed, and I) are doing our local NJ Autumn deer season and going for deer in Essex County, NY.

I grew up in a family of non-hunters and with no dad to boot so, I'm learning slowly. Love it.

Roughly 13-15 weekends out of the year. Hope to go more and more as time goes by.

Well if you are including walking into the woods behind my house with a rifle to see what I might be able to "hunt" then I would have to say about 2-4 times a week all year long.

That is what I am talking about. 2-4 times a week is 1-2 hundred. Nice!

Not enough. Lately it's been only about 15 times a year. Multi-day trips count as one time, of course (usually 2 multi-day trips/yr).

Hunting dove, hog & deer about 15 times. I would say about two to three times that (30-45) scouting and clearing
hunting area.

50 to 60 times. If I was retired I would go just one time to deer camp and not come back until the end of deer season..........

Jeez you guys get out a lot!

I only get out a handful of times a year, but then I've only just really started hunting two seasons ago, despite growing up around it. Two years ago my total hunting time was 1 morning and 1 deer. Last year it was 5 mornings and a couple afternoons, and no deer. This fall I hope to try and get some coyotes, if possible. And some prairie dogs this summer, if I can find some others to go with...

Part of my problem is that I don't really have the money for gas to toodle around looking for places to hunt.

I wish I didn't live in So Cal

I envy all you guys that live so close to the magical hunting grounds. In order for me to hunt, I have to travel many hours and experience many hardships...and thats just to get to the airport.
Last year was a decent year for me and I think I got out about 20 days total - Deer in Texas, Javi's in Texas, Hogs in Central Cali, Doves in Nor Cal and Texas, Quail in Texas, Squirrels in Nor Cal, Ducks in Nor Cal and Texas...
Hey, when I write it all down, thats not to bad at all for a city slicker.
