Buying a Pistol range bag

I need a bag for my range trips, currently using an old duffel bag. I don't like throwing everything on top of each other, I'd rather have it compartmentalized.

My main problem, nowhere around me has any good bags in the store to try out. So I'll be buying one online that I've never seen before.

What do have and/or recommend and why? Thanks.

Midway USA usually runs theirs on sale every couple of months. ive bought several from them of various models. I usually buy the single bags that have the 6-8 mag slots in them.

+100 on the big Midway bag. Just about everybody I shoot with has one. I had to put some patches on mine so I could tell it apart from other peoples.

This price is about what I paid for mine when it was on sale. In fact I've never seen it for more. I wish they had the coyote color when I got mine. I also took the stage bag out and use it exclusively for trips to the skeet range.

I prefer a range box over a range bag. Range boxes like Bullseye shooters use. They are made in models that hold 2 to 5 pistols standing upright in padded clamps. Compartments for ammo, mags and other necessities. You can even mount a spotting scope on the inside of the lid and have it set to your target, and a quick glance threw the scope after each string of shots is easy. I guess the spotting scope isn’t necessary for 7 to 10 yard shooting, but sure comes in handy for seeing .22 holes at 50 yards.

I bought a range bag from Buds Gun Shop and it is a great buy. It has all the space and compartments you will need. Here is the info, it was $65

I went a somewhat different direction.

I bought a 24 inch plastic tool box (Stanley) that had top lift up compartments, a tray and then a large storage space underneath.

That works for most of the stuff. Stapler for the targets, tape, small tools, clips etc.

I also have a small duffel bag I keep the spotting scope and its tripod in, my rest bag and all the larger stuff (and targets though I can get those at the range to.

I do shoot both pistol and rifle so its more flexible. The box I can put the pistol laser in, the ammunition for it etc.

The chrono has its own box. I can mix and match whatever I need (or want to do) for a given day.

Generality the box and the duffel come with me (and I can throw the chrono in the duffle if I need to be more compact.

Add me to the many satisfied Midway bag customers. I bought the smaller one on sale for 30.00 about 18 mos ago. It carries 3 full size pistols, 2@ ear muffs and glasses plus all the ammo I can shoot with no problems. I personally have not seen a sturdier bag in this price range.

The MTM Sportsmen's Plus Utility Dry Box is the best "range bag" I've found. It has plenty of room for everything I tote to the range and it's watertight, so I don't worry if I get caught in the rain.

I've lost count how many years I've had the I-Shot Pro Shooter range bag, but its been a long time, and it still looks new and works great. It is durable and has a lot of features for the money.

I find that the fabric covered "tool boxes" you see on sale at places like Home Depot, Lowes, and even Harbor Freight make the best range bags. I have several. One for all of my archery supplies, one that is a true gun range bag, and another that I use to store part and spare magazines in. I only pay about $10 for these, complete with pockets, etc.

Another positive vote for Midway's bag. I bought the big one. I will probably add the small one. The problem with the big one is that you fill it up with stuff that you don't need and it gets too heavy to carry. Thankfully it has a small pull out bag that works fine. It is a very good product at a good price.

Satisfied owner of both the small and large Midway bags here. They are awesome and certainly can't be beat for value.

The big one does tend to get heavy when loaded down...which is one of the reasons I own them both. If it's just me and for a quick trip, I take the small one. If it's a big family trip, it often takes them both.
