I need some schooling/ 41ae

The .41 ae came up the other day. I've been reading about this cartridge, and people seem to say the load data for the .41 ae and the .40 S&W are interchangeable. This has me wondering. I see load data for the .40 up to a 190 gr bullet and the .41 up to 210 gr bullets. I have also read people claim the .41 ae can get up to the lower .41 mag realm. But I never hear anyone claim the .40 can do this. So for the people that do load the .41 ae, what is the heaviest bullet weight you have used? What bullet weight do you normally use? I think a 200 gr bullet at 1000 fps is pretty good. What kind of speeds are you really getting? Not that the speed really matters to me, just curious. And now to powders. I see a lot of people saying they use 231, unique, and HS6. What about power pistol? Any other clarifications or answers to questions I might have forgotten would be appreciated.

windy

I found WSL for lead bullets, and Universal and HS6 for jacketed (based on pistol, or sub-gun), perfect. Perfect.
(Many tested. The 41 AE is a big reason why I have so many handgun powders on my shelves.)

I use 170g Sierra JHC, and Speer 180g Gold Dot (discontinued).
For lead I tested varied '41 Magnum' choices, settling on a 210g LSWC.

For me, charges varied from 40 S&W, and I did not attempt to use it; I used or developed 41 AE data.

I could get a very manageable 1030fps with the 170/180g jacketed, and kept the lead around 780--850fps.
I did NOT try making my perfect police rd into the 41 Magnum.
But through the course of my development I could exceed 1000fps with the 210g lead, except I did NOT care for its recoil signature in my 9mm-sized platform.

Thanks for that. That is some good info. Im wondering about the turned down 41 mag brass. With it using a large primer, does the data need to be adjusted any?

No.
Adjust data for case volume.
