Mossberg 835 ultimag 12 gauge
I just bought a used 835 12 gauge. The barrel has instructions bot to use slugs on it, my question is can I shoot buck shot through it. Thanks.

Buckshot is OK (just use the proper choke).

Right now I have a carlsons mod screw in choke. Is this choke ok for buck shot or can you reccommend another. Thanks again.

Any choke is fine for buckshot. How it performs with your barrel and choke you will have to determine. The reason they do not recommend slugs is that the barrel is overbored and accuracy would be lousy.

why
The 835 tubes are "overbored" to reduce recoil and improve patterns. That plays hob with big chunks of lead (lugs) bouncing down the tube. They do make a special slug barrel for the 835 though.
