Shotgun Advice

I need a new shotgun. I have a Rem 1100 and it sucks, I want something under 1200 any recommendations?

What will be the primary purpose of the new shotgun? Hunting, competition, defense?

I have 2 1100 and an 11-87, all 3 work as advertised. I shoot skeet with one and it's been very good. Recently bought the 11-87 Trap so far it works as it should. They are easy on the shoulder, reliable, they even shoot target loads.

If a 1100 does not work it is either filty dirty, assembled wrong or some broke parts.

Yeah, I have 3 70s vintage 1100s and a 2000 something 11-87 and they have been flawless.

Maybe that's why I got a good deal on the 11-87. The magazine tube was carboned up and the rings were in backwards.

It is my informed opinion that the biggest issue with most semi autos is the nut on the back of the stock.
I have had an 1100 since 1963. It has been flawless except for a broken extractor in 1982. I have added four others; not because they have been problematic. A veritable boatload of other guns have come aboard along the way, and most have left. Some cost 10 times as much, but they did not do what they were intended to one bit better.

How can you expect informed advice/suggestions, w/o some background info to base it on ?

My Browning O/U in .410 Sucks too .....because I can barely break 90 out of 100 - even on my best days....

It jams all the time...last year I was shooting a wood duck (beautiful bird) and I hit it but it didn't drop, but I had it lined up and then it jammed. It flew off all messed up, I felt bad because I just messed it up and I didnt get it.

It seems to jam all the time. Cleaned it, but it still happends.

1100s are fussier with ammo than 11-87s. If your 1100 is jamming it is either dirty, broken, or you are running ammo that is too weak. It is an elegant shotgun and not a bad design by any measure.

How did it jam:

Did the spent hull not eject?

Spent hull ejected, didn't cycle fresh round to chamber.

Hull stove piped?

Bolt hung open?

...and you made absolutely sure the two gas ports are clean and the o-ring is in good shape? Did you clean the magazine and inspect spring?

I think that 1100 can be fixed. As long as the bluing is still on the magazine tube and not wore off, the gun should be able to be repaired and work like the other couple million 1100's out there.

I suggest you go to Shotgun World and go to the Remington section and at the top there is a good thread on properly cleaning an 1100. I give mine a 5 minute swipe anytime I shoot one of them, but once a year it needs a thorough cleaning, including the gas ports and the action spring in the buttstock.
If an 1100 is jamming something is wrong, either with the gun or the owner.
Is yours a Magnum model? If so, 3" 1100s usually need fairly stout 3" steel loads to work properly. A 2-3/4" Model 1100 should have no problems with any normal 2-3/4" load.

Clean a shotgun, LOL. I have a Remington 1100 that after each use has only had a brush down the bore, oiled and wiped down since my Father bought it in the mid 1960's and it has never failed.

I know what you mean, but if you duck hunt and stick the butt down in 4" of water and don't thoroughly clean it. I guarantee you, you WILL have problems before too long.

This happened on Saturday...I threw the gun on my shoulder to free a boot from the mud, then noticed about 1" of the synthetic stock in the water. Not a huge deal, but I had to pull the recoil pad off to clean the pad screws.
