Winchester 1200 stainless. rare

I am looking for something very rare.
I have a Winchester 1200 Police, 1982, They are Stainless and factory chromed, it has a 18.5 inch barrel. I would like to find a 28-30 inch barrel for this thing. What I am looking for may not exist???. Who are the experts on old winchester shotguns that could help with good info.

Yep - About as rare as snake feathers.

AFAIK, you will have to obtain a blued Model 1200 barrel in the longer length & have it nickel-plated/chromed, since IIRC Winchester never made a longer stainless/etc M1200 bbl.

Google "shotgun barrels" for places like BarrelExchange.com, Corsons.com, & others, for sources.

Are you sure it's stainless and not satin nickle? Winchester receivers were made from aluminum alloy, not steel. I would think that if they were going to going to go to the trouble to make a few stainless shotguns it would be more cost effective to make a bunch.

Not saying it isn't SS. But the Ruger Red Label is the only stainless shotgun I'm aware of. Several companies have made satin nickle plated shotguns.

I have seen short stainless barrels. AFAIK there was never a "sporting" length stainless barrel. As mentioned above, the receiver was always aluminum, sometimes plated (which was the case with the stainless "marine" models). IIRC, the plated marine models held up better than the stainless-barrel version - go figger. You could get a longer barrel plated, or there's probably a DuraCoat product that would closely match.

Winchester made a polished reciever model for export. The sides were not colored black but had a high polish. And it was aluminum alloy.

Winchester did make Model 1200 shotguns with stainless steel barrels and possibly other parts.
This was sold as the Winchester Model 1200 Police Stainless.
It was made in an 18" barrel with a 7 shot magazine.

Strangely, Winchester said that the stainless barrels tended to rust inside easier than the plated guns, so they discontinued the stainless steel barrels and went to all plated guns in the Model 1300 Marine Defender.

I recently spotted a used one of these in a gun shop..it has a wood stock and front end with chromed everything else and a very short barrel. . The shop was selling this used shotgun for just under $600. Seems like a bit to much for a used pump action Winchester??

Any thoughts on this?

There is a Winchester 1200 "Marine" I purchased one New in 1979 or 1980 at Gart Brothers in Aurora, Co. It has a Stainless 18 1/2" bbl, plus magazine tube. and various fittings. Holds 6+1 3" or 7+1 23/4". It has rifle sights front and rear(adjustable). Currently fitted with a Burris FASTFIRE holo sight. With Fedral 23/4 Slugs, will print 7" @ 100 yards. Hope this settle some arguements..
