winchester Model 12 questions
Hi -
40 years ago I had one of these for dove hunting. I can find one sort of cheap (undere $200), that looks beat up on the outside, but god on the inside. If I wanted to get it and use it for home defense, is there an aftermarket magazine tube extension? Any other suggestions? thank you Richard |

A model 12 will hold 6 shells in magazine and 1 in the chamber. I know there are HD guns out there that hold more, but I never understood the reasoning.$200 for a Winchester model 12 is a great price, it is worth more than that in parts.

Good Answer
About 20 years ago I found a beater mod 12 with a poly choke for $185.00. Rather than hack it up myself I had a smith cut the choke off back far enough to leave about a 22 inch barrel. Pulled the plug out and it's been in the house since.

Under $200 is amazing. You are fortunate to know of one at that price. The Model 12 can be loaded up with 7 rounds as it stands. Are you expecting to get into a running Rambo type encounter? Generally in a HD situation it is 1 to 2 shots because either the BG or you are down. If you have a situation where more rounds are needed, I suggest you get some training in HD and get back to 1 round to terminate the threat to you.
