What's the stupidest gun deal you never made?
Like in,,,I should have bought it - but - for what ever reason I passed.
Mine was a pair of blue 4" Pythons I didn't buy about a dozen years or so ago. The dealer had had them on his shelf for over a year w/no takers. He said I could have them for $900 - as long as I bought both. Like an idiot, I passed. |

January 2009, I passed on a 4" blued Python for about $600-700 at a gun show. I had the cash, and had just returned from deployment to Iraq. It was the first gun scare and I wanted an EBR. Sooo stupid.
I could have had a great heirloom, or simply doubled my investment on that. |

As my checking account will show, I didn't pass up much of anything for a while. If I thought I could afford it I bought it. Thankfully, I am not like that anymore.

My brother had an AMT 22wmr that I bought for $150 bucks. I drove home with my new toy, I showed my wife and she went ballistic. To keep the flack down, I took it back and my brother gave me my money back.

Was at a big Gun Show in the 90's. The guy was selling a fully automatic Ruger rifle with some accessories at $1400. I bet that rifle's worth a lot more now. Also had a chance a few years ago to buy a Single Six 17hmr/17 Mach2 new for about $675. I didn't want to pay that. Wish I had that revolver.

i sold a Colt SAA, 4 3/4" barrel second gen. for $600.00 in 1986AD to finance going to real estate school, that turned out to be a total loss due to a bad housing market.
i would gladly give $1,200.00 to get it back !! |

Passed up a matched set of colt peacemakers in 1969. Distressed sale in Carson City NV. $800. I kick myself about 4 times a year.

If I find a killer deal on ANY firearm, I buy it. Doesn't matter if I need it or want it, I buy it.
If I can flip it for a 50% profit, I buy it.

Barrett .50 BMG semi auto
Had the smoking deal set, daughter came in next day, literally next day, said she was getting married. Congrats, then turned to the wife, said "guess I'm not driving down to get that gun tomorrow". Marriage lasted less than a year, should have bought the weapon But I did enjoy walking her down the aisle.

Selling or trading any gun. I've traded and sold too many on a whim wanting to get something else just to wish later that I still had them.

I made the mistake in 96, of selling a S&W 586 to a guy I knew. Needed the cash. Told him if he ever wants to get rid of it to let me know.
2 months later he took it to a pawn shop and traded it for a Mossberg shotgun. |

Well, I've had a few occasions to feel really stupid...
Passing up a Mateba Unica 6 revolver for $900.00. "Too much money" At an antique show with my wife, passed on a minty Colt Trooper for $300.00. Early on, passing on a Mauser "Red-9" semiautomatic pistol for $400.00. "Who wants that thing?" Walking past an original TDE Auto-Mag. Seller wanted $900.00. And, one of my crown jewels of stupid: Walked in my LGS; seeing a REALLY nice, minty Luger pistol, about 99%, in .30 Luger. Passed it up because it wasn't a 9mm. Price was $650, on consignment. Left the store, thought about it, went back two hours later. Already sold.

This is way easy. Trading a Colt Officer's LW for a Glock 36. When I got home my wife couldn't believe that I traded my "beautiful" Colt .45 for the ugly Glock. I couldn't believe it either.

Weatherby mark V Deluxe in 416 weatherby.
Sat on the shelf for about 2 years, covered in dust behind a divider on their rack. I was a regular customer, offered it to me for $575, (10 years ago). I was filling out the forms and looked at the price of ammo, didn't get it.....HELLO stupid you have a reloading press!!!!!!!!!!

Before the first magazine ban, I thought I should buy an extra mag or two for my Glock 19. We knew the ban was coming. So I bought two at double standard price. However, the dealer offered me a bag of new ones (some dealer level shipping package). I turned it down and they went to $120 a piece.
Sold a SW 651 for $300. They have doubled in price.

I foolishly sold the first handgun I ever bought, a mid 90's blued Colt Detective Special, to a LGS at a loss a few months after I bought it after getting nervous about having a gun and never firing it. Turned out to be the last run of Detective Specials Colt ever produced. I recently saw the identical gun I had online new in box and selling for 3 times what I paid for mine. I was young and foolish then, I'm different now.
Moral of these stories? Do not ever sell any guns you acquire unless other then to flip for profit, and learn to recognize that once or twice in a lifetime deal when you see it, and act accordingly. Last edited by Chris9472; November 28, 2012 at 12:47 AM. |

buddy wanted to sell me his 44mag snubby that was an ultra light version. he was really insistent on different occaisions hoping to sell this (already bought used) firearm. He even mentioned it might have some issues due to its weight but is a good firearm. I passed. The firearm would'nt have been a good buy in my opinion.

20 years ago I traded a very clean 7.7mm Japanese Arisaka,,,
For a beat-up no-name mandolin. I regretted it 5 minutes after the trade. Aarond .

I bought a pristine Remington model 1100 20 gauge for a very good price many moons ago. I used that gun for several years and loved it. I was in a bind for cash and sold the thing for about what I originally paid for it. The few bucks from it made little difference in my financial situation, and I would love to have one like it. It would be a fine shotgun for one of my grandkids...
