light bullets in short barrels

there are good bullets for short barrels on the market. the dpx, the pdx1 line, short barrel gold dots. nyclad, and others however...

all of these bullets are at least 125 grains. they do have expansion and adequate penetration however what do the new crop of 110 grain bullets do in a short barrel?

are they going to cause forcing cone damage, have penetration when they open up on a target?

The Corbon 110 grain DPX outshines them all, if you like expanding bullets. I'll take a serious meplat and two holes, but most want expansion and the Corbon DPX out of a 2" barrel works real good.

Fire enough of them and they will damage your forcing cone. It used to be the case that hollow points needed to be fired at very high speeds to ensure expansion. That is no longer the case. To achieve those very high speeds required large charges of powder. In a gun with a vented barrel like a revolver these kind of loads will cause gas cutting of the forcing cone and the top strap. There is no reason to subject your revolver to this kind of abuse. Choose a medium weight bullet that will acheive a moderate velocity from a short barrel. And put it where it needs to go.
