July 4th Semiauto Challenge
Hi all,
First off happy Independence Day! In my opinion if ever there was a day to carry, today is that day. While I know the laws in some states prevent that, and if so you have my sympathies, for the rest of us this is a great day to exercise a right we were ensured by those long before us. In keeping with that I'd like to present a challenge, of three steps. How American can you get? 1. First off carry. If that's the only of these that you can meet then you're well ahead of the game. 2. Secondly, carry a firearm in the venerable 45 ACP. Caliber wars aside, it's as American as apple pie. 3. Carry a firearm made in the U.S.A., even if just partially and even if the company is based overseas. Support the American workers around the country. 4. Carry in a holster made in the U.S.A. It doesn't even have to be a fancy custom model, though extra points if it is, but made in the U.S.A. Feel free to post pics of your gear meeting and number of those points. And if you come up with a point yourself feel free to mention it. This is meant to be fun and to realize that arguments aside we're all here for the same passion. Enjoy the holiday, -TR

Even before reading the initial challenge, I already met all four qualifications. In fact, I'm carrying two 45's: Ruger 1911 Commander (IWB) and Colt New Agent in my pocket (cargo shorts). So, I'm claiming double the points!
I'm also heading out to the Cabela's which recently opened just down the road from me. Don't really need anything, just a fun way to enjoy my 4th of July! Lest we take our freedoms for granted, just turn on the news and see what's going on in Egypt, Syria and many other places around the world. If we don't stand up for our freedoms, there are surely people who are ready to take them from us.

I will carry a pocket knife made in the USA today. I can't carry since my state isn't a free state.

Re: July 4th Semiauto Challenge
I'll be carrying the usual, Bodyguard .380 in a theis holster. I don't own a .45 yet, but my gun and holster are both made in the U.S.!
I can't wait to get my first 1911. I've been drooling over the SR1911's since they came out.. Last edited by Erikbal; July 4, 2013 at 01:26 PM. |

Not carrying any of these today, but this otherwise meets your criteria.
Ed Brown Special Forces, Les Baer UTC, Dan Wesson Valor. The holster is a Blade-Tech UCH that has been CDW4ME modified.

If Beretta USA counts I am good on gun, but I failed this challenge.

I'll be carrying an SR9C in a crossbreed supertuck so I'll be meeting 3 of the criteria.
the only other option I have is an XDM45 which still only meets 3 of the criteria and I don't have a holster for it currently so it'd be 2 criteria.

Great to see all the pics and to read what people are carrying. Today was my first day carrying the HK45c for a whole day and once again I tip my hat to the folks at Crossbreed for making one comfortable holster. (Interesting note: This HK45c was made, at least the frame, and assembled in Newington, NH, not too long of a drive from me in my home state and part of the reason I bought it.)
I hope everyone is having a fun and safe 4th!

I met three of your criteria. I carried, I carried an American-made Ruger in .380 ACP, and I carried in an American-made DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster (I think it is American-made, anyway).
However, .380 is no .45...but I think Patton liked it. Also carried American-made Remington Golden Sabers an an American-made Benchmade mini-grip. This is an older pic of the carry rig, and it no longer has the CT grip. I sold that at a deep discount to a friend who loved it, since my big paws couldn't get a proper grip on the LCP with the little activation bump.

I carried this M1911A1 for the first time today in an Uncle Mike's Holster.
Then I shot 100 rounds of American Eagle 230 grain FMJ ball. This was the first magazine I ever fired from it, 10 meters, standing. This was from 25 meters, standing. I'm claiming full points. I don't think I can get much more American than that. Oh, and I had my 2004 Springfield Armory Bi-tone Mil-Spec 1911-A1 with me and shot it some, too. |
