Shooting the Sharps

I have a fairly new IAB sharps (the price was right). I have never fired a Sharps before, though I have owned an original rifle for over 20 years (the bore was not worth shooting). I know that black powder should have some compression, or at least no air space. The chamber in the the breech block seems to seems to make this impossible. I am making paper cartridges, and I have heard that they can be loaded with loose powder also. How are you guys loading it?

Thanks
Bill C
