Ammo Prices!!!
I was looking over the history of my purchases on the "my account" section of Midway USA's website.
I spend a lot of $$ there and have placed about 50 orders in the last 3.5 years. So anyway, you can click and see your orders, including the price of everything. If you click on the product number (it's a link) it brings up the current page for that item. Boy, oh boy have ammo prices soared in the past couple years. I mean, we all know it. It's not hot news but there are some glaring hikes. Check this out: 3/24/2005 Federal American Eagle Ammunition 223 Remington 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail Box of 20 Price then: $4.29 Price now: $8.09 and Unavailable! 5/9/2005 Winchester USA Ammunition 9mm Luger 115 Grain Full Metal Jacket Box of 50 Price then: $6.79 Price now: $12.29 7/15/2005 Federal American Eagle Ammunition 9mm Luger 124 Grain Full Metal Jacket Box of 50 Price then: $8.29. I worked at gander mountain for one year and the prices climbed dramatically. the Winchester 9mm (100 rds) started at 10.99 now it 22.99
That is only one example, but all ammo prices are going up. Hell even lead shot. was 19.99--a year later 34.99 It happens. I just started reloading because of this Fat Man

Ammo prices are crazy. I'm getting my reloading equipment after I return from this next business trip.

When I got my CCW 8 year ago, not sure now, the instructor said that because of the constitution it would be very hard for antis to completely band guns. He said the best way for theme to do this would be is to raise the price of ammo way up. He said “Do you want to pay $10 for one round?” Conspiracy?

Look on Midway for something called the Lee Pro 1000...it's not the creme of the crop as reloading hardware goes BUT it's loaded 4000 rounds of handgun ammo and 1000 rounds of rifle ammo (using as single stage of course) for me in the last six months or so.
You'll save that 150.00 pretty quickly if you shoot a lot. |

I tried telling someone a year and a half ago when I saw the first 25% increase if that happend 2 more times we would be paying twice the price for the same ammo. He could not under stand the math and I did not feel like spelling it out for him. But here we are today and ammo is twice the price :barf:

The prices of reloading components have jumped up as well. Loading your own will save you some money but it has become an increasingly expensive proposition as well.

I have yet to meet a thug who handloads. Maybe it's the governments way of reducing crime.
I like it. At $10 each for a commercial round of 9mm, thugs may think twice before doing a drive by when a magazine of 15 rounds costs as much as their sneakers or their rent payment, take your pick. |
