concealed carry vest-need opinions please
Does the Sportsman Guide "Guide Gear" concealment vest properly conceal a full size 1911? Reviews on their site say it tends to run on the small side which can be overcome by ordering a larger size, but I can find no mention if it hides a large auto well.

It depends in part how you want to use the vest and how you carry the gun.
I've worn a variety of vests -- from Orvis, Filson and other makers. I've found that if in the correct size they work very well as cover garments. I have easily concealed commander size 1911s when carried in a good IWB or close contact OWB holster on a suitable belt. But if it's one of those vests with a built-in gun pocket, I don't think trying to carry a 1911 in one of those vest pockets will work out too well. The 1911 is too heavy.

ok, thanks. The intention was to carry the 1911 in the vest inner concealed pocket.

I have one these in Bison hide and there is room enough to carry a 1911 on each side.

Wow Carne, that is a sharp vest. My interest in the SG vest was the price. It is ~$39 or so. I appreciate all the responses. If I get a vest I want an inexpensive one. In hot weather I carry a mouse gun in a pocket holster, but would rather like to carry my 9, 45 or 357, hence the vest interest.

blue mountain, CCC, 5.11, Duluth Trading Company.....
I'd check the Blue Mountain vest, the vests from; 5.11 Tactical, SIG Sauer, CCC, Woolrich Tactical, Duluth Trading.
Safari vests have been popular since the 1980s or so. There are a few color & style choices. |
