45 acp 200 gr lswc ?

I load 45 ACP 200 gr lswc for target shooting. I I crimp 4.069 at the case mouth and OAL of 1.250. What is the procedure to setup the die to seat and crimp in one operation without shaving lead, instead of using a separate crimp die?
I am not crimping in a crimp groove.

Obviously a typo, but what do you really crimp to?

.4069 or .469?

Well... Let see, I use Lee dies on my Classic Turret press. I use a crimp die, however in the instructions with the die set it explains how to use the seater die to both crimp and seat. It reads fairly straight forward. Go to the Lee site and look up the instructions for setting up the dies. If you need more info let me know.

I have found that I prefer to use separate seating and crimping stations. I have done both but settled on doing it like this. Tim

3rd stage Seating/Crimping die adjustment for Lee die

With an empty case in the shell holder, raise the ram to the top and turn the die in until it stops. This is where the crimp shoulder meets the case.

Place a bullet on the empty flared case. Raise and lower the ram checking bullet seating depth. (make sure the adjustment knob is backed off some first)

Rotate the adjustment knob clockwise while holding the die. Raise and lower the ram to confirm seating depth.

Lower the ram and turn the die in one additional half turn. Raise the ram to complete the crimp depth. You might have to fine tune you crimp by raising or lowering the whole die a fuzz.

I don't use the Lee factory crimp die any more on handgun loads.

The 45acp doesn't need a taper crimp. Just set the die so it removes the flare.

I never measure my crimp.......crimp till it falls in the chamber freely. Your barrel chamber should be your guage.

My 1911 and camp carbine don't like Extreme's plated 200gr SWC. To get this bullet to run in these guns I seat at 1.230" and TC crimp to .469-.470"
