using a scale

Hey everyone I too am new to reloading and I just got an older Herter's Inc. scale from a friend. I've looked on you tube and everywhere on the net I could find but I cant seem to find info on actually using the scale. Does anyone know of a good link that explains to proper way to use a scale?

It's not for a Herter's scale, but have a look at this.

SlugBug, I do not know what Herters' scale you have but trying to balance anything on a beam type scale can be aggravating, even in the old days instructions became distractions because no one read them,

If you have a tang on the balance beam that hangs down and into what appears be be a well, add oil, the oil is used as a dampener to prevent the scales from taking all day to settle down, the oil was used before the use of magnetic dampeners.
