Savage 99 scope base

Recently I traded for a Savage 99 EG that has been drilled & tapped. I'm thinking of mounting a Kollmorgen Bear Cub which is 26mm in dia. Ringwise the only choice is STD rings. I already have these.

I've been unable to find a base with matte finish to go with the scope. Gloss is readily available. My question is how best to "age" the gloss so it will look right with the old rifle and nearly-as-old scope?

Thanks, guys.

Send it off and have it rust blued.

Thanks for the reply, Scorch.
I think I'll order the gloss 1 piece base and see how it looks on the gun and go from there.

If the base is soaked in vinegar to remove the high-gloss bluing, dried, then cold blued, dried & waxed, you should have the desired matte blue.

I found a one-piece Leupold base locally. It looks OK.

I'll keep the vinegar treatment in mind for future use.

Thanks guys.
