Cabelas, http://www.cabelas.com has Woodleigh bullets in their 2000 shooting catalog. Just curious, what caliber and game are you loading for?

I have a Steyr Scout rifle. I should have a press in a month or two [finally]. I am looking at loading some solids. Less for hunting than to test a bit.
Woodleigh seems about the best bet for solids in calibers smaller than 375. I have always been curious about Bell and others use of 7x57, or similar powered calibers, on elephants and such. Not that I plan to try a 308 on Elephants. |

Glamdring. The Huntington catalog has Woodleigh bullets. They show a 220 gr. FMJ, 50 to the box for $74.98 plus shipping and handling.( At that price, they ought to eat the S&H) Part # is 8700. You can reach them at (www.huntingtons.com) or Ph; (530) 534-1210.
Hornady used to make a 220 gr. solid as well, but I notice it is not in their latest reloading manual nor the one before it. You might want to write them and see if any are still available. The only other thing I can suggest is scrounge around the gun shows. I actually found some 275 gr. .35 caliber bullets for my .35 Whelan. Don't know what I'll ever use them on, but I've got them. Hope this helps some. Paul B. |

In the Cabelas catalog, the smallest caliber is 9.3mm (.366) [$60/50] and runs up to the 500 Nitro (.510) [$50/50].
Have you considered Barnes solids? |

I have considered Barnes Solids but feel that it would be difficult to make them work for the 308 (because of their length--with 220 grain bullet).
I think I should be able to get close to 2100 with the 308/220, in my 19" barreled Scout, which is in the same velocity and SD range as many elephant cartridges. Like I said this is more in the nature of testing. I have a friend who has a 460 Weatherby. Amd I think I can scare up a 375 and a 416 from somewhere. I want to set up a comparative test for penetration. Might also compare 44 mag with LBT or Hammerhead bullets and the 45-70 with Hammerhead bullets. Both the 415 and 530. I prefer the trohpy bonded Sledgehammer and Speer AGS-solid for calibers that those bullets are made for. I think the blunt tip is a better idea than the roundnose. ~now if I only had more money to go with all this time on my hands |
