unique or w231

I am new to reloading and can get a hold of Unique or w231. I will be loading mostly 9mm and .40sw. Can anyone tell me what differences I might see? And anyone like one over the other. I would like to pick one that works best in both cals. but can buy some of each too also anyone use vihtavori 320 or 340 for these calibers. thx (the new guy)

I like 231 in most of my pistols (except for the havy magnums, where I use 2400).

Unique is ok, but its nasty.

I've never cared much for Unique. It doesn't meter well through most volumetric measures because of the large flat flake size and it also tends to be dirty.

I have used a LOT of 231 over the past 25 years, though. It's my go to powder for just about everything I reload except .44 Special.

defining "one powder choice" perfection

Can't do it.

But I can state W231 is a perfect 45 ACP powder choice.
And Alliant Power Pistol is a perfect 9x19 powder choice (AND, also the perfect 45 ACP +P powder choice).

W231 is adequate for the 9x19 and perfect for the 45 ACP.

I started reloading a couple of years back and used the 231 that was given to me. I've used nothing else in .38 and .45 and have been very happy! It is a bit hard to find around here of late. Good Luck!!

Regards,
