I've been using a Weaver T-10 for 1000 yard matches for about 30 years, works fine for me.
Any good scope will work at 1000 yards, just remember, be careful of high power (+20 power) scopes, the mirage will wash them out. Another problem in 1000 yard shooting, the heat off the barrel, scene through the scope will confuse you in your mirage reading. I use a barrel band, A wide nylon strap that goes from the bases to the front sight mount to help break up the heat coming off the barrel. I still use a spoting scope to read conditions when using a scope.

I've shot 1000yrds with old mil surps why wouldn't a modern sub moa bolt action do it? Out past 500-600yrds It's the shooter's ability to judge "dope" the wind.

I think you'll be needing more magnification. I have the Bushnell 3200 on my Bushmaster Varminter and I'm thinking about replacing it with the Bushnell Elite 6500.
Now I know there are all kind of experts that wouldn't hesitate to take 500 yd shots using a 4x scope, but I personaly like to see what I'm shooting at and precisely where I am aiming. |
