Bullet weight vs POI
The screw adjustable Meprolite Tritiums on my P 220 are fading so I'm looking for replacements. I'd like to keep adjustability but get away from the sharp edges/corners on the Meprolites. Recent telecon with a manufacturer went.... " Different bullet weights only change POI vertically so once drifted to center, only elevation needs adjusting". Now I'm wondering if the windage changes I've seen with different bullet weights were due to my lousy shooting, the guns, or maybe my imagination.

Probably your grip is more solidly behind the gun on the side opposite the direction heavier bullets tend to drift horizontally. Try shifting the gun left and right in your hand. Shoot at a blank piece of paper and watch to see that the front sight tends to drop back into rear sight notch on coming down from recoil, and not to the right or left of the rear sight notch. That's another indication your grip needs to shift a little. This will never be perfect, but adjusting your grip until the front sight tends to drop back into view in the rear sight notch will get you faster follow-up shots and better double-tap second round placement.
Another possibility is the gun is torqing enough that it twists to the side during recoil. Try tightening your grip. Try the opposing-pressure Weaver hold to see if that corrects it? Nick

Before I pop for new sights, I'm going to load up some 185, 200, and 230 gr rounds and see where the POI goes with careful shooting.

I have a horizontal shift of about 6" at 20yds between right and left hand when shooting a 1911 due to the difference in how the gun recoils.
If you're shooting with the same hand, it will probably shift a little from one bullet weight to the next, but not by much. Ty |
