Maverick 88 Barrels

Will a 20" Maverick security 12 gauge, 7+1 the one with the magazine tube that goes the full length of the barrel, be able to use any other barrels such as a 24" or 28"?

Probably not. I believe the distance between the chamber to the connecting lug is longer.

Yeah, judging by the pictures, for the method of barrel attachment used by the 88 and 500, the length of the mag tube determines the barrel that goes with it.
Purty sure the 590 is different and more like most other pumps.

Take down screw is in a different place on an 8 rounder. It's in a different place on an 18.5" vs 20" barrel too.

The 7+1 model 500 / 88 uses a dedicated barrel. They once offered a 20" Rifle sighted smooth bore slug barrel and a 24" VR Accu Choke barrel..but in over 20 years I haven't actually found one available for my Model 500.

I've looked for one of the 24" 8-shots for a while too. Never seen one in the flesh, just the parts catalog.

As Maverick 88 site says, capacity and gauge determine if barrels fit. If the capacity is not the same as the barrel, I believe it works if you change the magazine tube. You are probably better off buying a second gun with the correct barrel.

I think they might still make up barrels.
