Cap Misfires

All of you that have cap misfires, here is what I do to the nipples. Never a cap
Misfire and the hammer has a very soft fall.

I can see how that would improve if one was having misfires. It would definitely concentrate the blow in the rim area of the nipple.

I would expect that would thin the rim down too much for me though. I actually have trouble with the nipples mushrooming after a couple thousand shots, so much that I have to chuck the nipple in the drill and spin it against a file to get the cone shape back to normal, or a cap won't fit over it.

(and mine do not misfire, or haven't yet. They only misfire in the case of having a cap jam, where a spent cap blows off an adjacent nipple and gets in the hammer channel, or sticks to the hammer face and softens the blow on the next one.)

My hammer fall is very soft as to not disturb the pistol when it falls. So I have
Not had any trouble with mushroom nipples.

A friend of mine, Doc Faraday, did that to his ROA nipples years ago. It allowed him to lighten the hammer fall for faster shooting. I dimple the nipples that have a fairly large surface area. If they have thin rims they are already "gathering" the cap flame pretty well. Good photo and a good idea to share.
