I have thought about it and for home defense, no way. I know every inch of my home. I live in a very well lit neighborhood and enough light comes in that I have no requirement for a light to see where I am going. Besides I figure two things.
First if they are breaking in at night they probably have a light which makes them an easy target. Second if I have a light I can be seen and am now an easier target than a shadowy figure in the dark. |

There's no place to attach a light on my Blackhawk!
I'm just not cool. |

You don't have to be a tac light sort of guy to use a flashlight. Flashlights at night are a must... when you hear a bump in the dark if you turn your light on your eyes automatically start to adjust... If you leave your room after turning the light on you have compleatly destroyed your vision for up to five min... With a flashlight the beam is projected infront of you not directly at your eyes so there isn't as big of a trasitional phase... The biggest differance between a regular flashlight and what some call a "tac" or tactical light is that the beam is usually more of a focused beam instead of just a bright light... THe one I have, hellfighter, used to be mounted on my AR... Sold the ar and kept the light to use at work. Love it

I'm with phenrichs on this. I know my home well and there's enough ambient light for me to see at night. I have a handheld flashlight, but would only use it if I needed to. I figure flashlights work both ways. It gives the bad guy early warning that I'm coming. Plus, with kids in the house, I don't want to shine a light on them that's attached to a gun.

My 2 HD options:
I don't love the TLR-3's fit on my FNP-9 (a tad too far from the trigger gaurd forcing me to use my off-hand thumb to activate), but this is the best it gets with the available keys. Other option is to grab my 92fs and a light. If my wife is home and in the bedroom (we don't have kids yet), I would probably fore-go any light at all. |

DrDragon, that's a nice setup. Love that Beretta, one of the options of a 9mm to get my pops.

White or tactical light set-ups...
I voted "no" but I'd opt for the choice of; "no but I'd have a light close by".
I like a few of the tactical white lights but for general use I'd use a laser aiming unit or night sights. White lights serve a practical use but require practice and proper tactics. Clyde ps; If you buy a white light, get a good brand with the strobe or flashing format. That could assist in control or containing a bad guy or subject in low light conditions. |

I voted no for two reasons
1. If we hear a bump in the night while we're sleeping we're going to bunker down and calling 911 and be armed in the room. 2. If I'm outside of the house and its dark, and something goes "bump", I'm color blind and I have a little bit better night vision than most, so I use it as an advantage, a light would take that advantage away from me. Edit: my wife reminded me that if i get sweeped by someone with a light then I'm $%^%, OK just gives me an area to put #4 buck then

Alright, finally got my tac light on like I said I would. Got the TLR-1 and a separate flashlight that's not mounted. Fenix LD20 best thing about that one is it uses AA's That light is 180 lumens...Extremely bright and also has the strobe effect...Now...the tac light that's mounted on my XD45 is EXTREMELY bright...It's like the sun. Seriously insane. I love it. Really happy I got it.
Of course, one question though.... Where can I get this thing a holster? OWB or IWB whichever. I think it makes more sense OWB. Anyone have a holster for their gun that has a mounted tac light? |

Holster arrived, pretty nice. Nice snug fit, well made. Most of the tension seems to be on the light itself. I should have went with a different belt attachment but I can always put on a sting ray loop. The screws go into metal inserts.

JBRU,
I have similar set-up, but with a TLR-2, and it's the 8-shot .357 mag instead of the .45 How do you like the moon clips?

As of now, I don't have a tac-light on any of my guns. None of my handguns have a rail on which to mount one. I've been meaning to pick one up for a long-gun, but I typically don't keep a long-gun handy for SD; I just use my carry pistol which stays near me. I feel better knowing my other guns are locked and secured.
I would like a tac-light, but don't think I'd want it on a carry gun, so would probably never use it anyway, since I don't like keeping extra guns about. A good flashlight in my other hand serves me well enough (in theory).
