Anyone have any pet loads for the 243 Win. using a 100 gr. bullet and other weights.
It's time to see what load shots the best in my new Browning BPR pump. Thanks, Turk |

TURK, I checked my records and found the following loads with which I'd had good results:
100gr Sierra BTS 38.0gr IMR-4895 43.5gr IMR-4350 I believe these are or are near maximum loads--suggest you back off a couple of grains and work upwards to a safe-in-your-gun load. In 85gr Nosler semi-spitzer and Win JHP I had good results with: 45.0gr IMR-4350 38.6gr IMR-4895 Likewise, these loads are probably near max. Good shooting--the .243 is an excellent caliber and is good for hunting varmints, the small Texas whitetails, and paper-punching. |

I use IMR 3031. I've only loaded the 70-grain Hornady spirepoint, and the Sierra 85-grain HPBT.
MAX! loads I use are 40.0 and 37.5 grains, respectively. Don't start there; back off two or three grains and watch for pressure signs. I get groups under 1/2" with these loads. I tried some Nosler 100-grain bullets, but I was disappointed with the group size. I think it's the possibly-too-slow twist in my barrel...Been too lazy to check, since the 85-grain seems to do as much damage as I need. Later, Art |

This is my all time favorite .243 load out of my Model 70 Win.
Win Brass CCI-200 Primer Sierra 85g Spitzer bullet H380 / 41.5 grains I used to shoot the Nosler 85g BTSP bullet prior to Nosler discontinuing the bullet about 8 to 10 years ago. The Sierra bullet shoots just as well. |

Before I started reloading, I visited a ranch in Montana. They set me up with a 3 rifles to shoot prarie dogs. 220 Swift, 17 Remingtom, and .243. The .243 was the best. It flipped the prarie dogs out of the holes, while the other calibers allowed them to slide down the holes.
Now 20 years later, I am building a 243. |
