Hornady trickler

I'd probably go with a trickler with a straight-through tube with a knob on the end. The one in the picture looks like it's made of plastic and wouldn't last as long as an all-metal one, and with a gear drive has more parts to break.

I've been using this one for years. At 1/5th the price you can't go wrong.

I use an early Hornady trickler, much simplier. These are easily made. Look at the RCBS trickler as a guide. Substitute the metal body with a 1-1/2" diameter of PVC pipe. Plug one end with a slug of lead (or whatever is solid and heavy) to maintain balance. Drill a hole in the center with clearance for a small trickle tube. Use o-rings on each side of the tube to keep it centered and powder from leaking. Drill one small hole in the center of the tube for powder to exit through. Plug one end of the tube where your fingers grab. Leave the other end open for the powder to trickle out into your pan.

If you look at the Hornady quick trickler you will see it is made for those who weigh every round. It has a 3 to 1 drive that dumps out powder quickly and slows to a very small tickle to top off to the desired weight. It seems to me that if you weigh every round like in rifle rounds then this would speed up the powder charging.

Bingo. You can measure out a whole charge with that thing pretty quick. There's a demonstration video on Hornady's YouTube channel. It's NOT cheaply made. The base is steel and it's larger than it looks in the link above. If it wasn't $80-$100 I would buy it.

I gave up on a trickler many years ago. I pour the powder in a plastic margine container and I dip it out with a tea spoon. If you dedicate one spoon to dipping it doesn't take long to learn how much powder it take to move a few tenths of a gran. I need three dips at the most and most of the time only two. I find this much faster than using a trickler.

I find this much faster than using a trickler.

I do the same thing, I just pour the powder out into a bowl and use one of the yellow Lee powder measure scoops. I use mostly extruded powders, so it's easy to pick up one "kernal" at a time.
