I have a Spyderco Para Military (former EDC), Leatherman Charge TTi (EDC), and a flashlight on my nightstand.

I have a 5'4" Japanese girl with a 3-dan black-belt in Kendo and a broom-handle cut to shinai length, capped off with a steel washer and lag-bolt on one end. But that's just her secondary skill-set.

Her primary, is the ability to pester rocks into submission.

never would have thought about the wasp spray... but you're right, with 20-30ft range it'd actually be a lot better than mace or pepper spray. couple burst of that AND then I'll shoot them...

I like my Walther p22 loaded with target load rounds. They wont penetrate the walls of my house, but they'll still screw someone up decent enough.

Other than that, theres the good ole Louiville Slugger, the Axe, the 12ga with bird shot, quite afew knives and swords, and if it gets really close, theres cans of primer for my hobby uses scattered around my house. Alone with this amazing product called Zip-Kicker. No idea if anyone knows what it is, but its made for curing cyanoacrylates, AKA superglue. That stuff in aerosole will royally mess up your day.

Oh, and a nice assortment of my tiny metal models, which are heavy, metal, and very spikey.

For non-standard defense, assuming I am somehow unable to reach a firearm, I have a knife, and another knife, and so on and so forth. If I'm really desperate, I have a large walking stick and a cheap katana in the closet, although on the way to those items I have to pass a firearm, and a knife, and another knife. Plus, I also have some aerosols and a lighter. I'm not particularly worried about being caught oof guard in a non-standard situation.

I think a flashbang grenade would be amazing for home defense. Hear someone downstairs at night, pull the pin and toss it down the stairs.

I keep a fullsize KABAR between the mattress. I currently have a tomahawk and machete out, but only because Ive yet to put them away after camping.

Until I read this thread, I though that I had home security covered. I had a S&W 40M&P, flashlight and the scariest thing, I sleep naked so me getting out of bed with no clothing on will make any bad guy (or gal) run for the hills! :barf: Now I see I need to hone my inventory a wee bit.

Also, those are good pictures of using keys as a weapon. That is how I carry my keys every time I enter or leave my vehicle.

On my nightstand I have a Surefire Defender flashlight and my father's Pal-36 camp knife from WW2.
I also have a windup alarm clock in case the electricity goes off during the night, my alarm will wake me on time. Not really a weapon, just another element of paranoia.

Three, large, noisy dogs for early warning. Winchester Ranger 12 ga shotgun with #4 buckshot with 18.5 inch barrel nearby in the bedroom, right next to a BRIGHT flashlight.
Springfield XD45 in reach in an electric finger sensitive safe in another room.
A well practiced with 9 mm in my basement office.

I don't plan to get near enough to the BG to engage in close-in combat. I'm willing to guess that a 20 year old bad guy may be better at using my knife than I am at 63.

My strategy is to engage at a distance while the goblins are occupied with the canines and neutralize the threat before they are anywhere near me.

OH, and

OK, just kidding.

Remington 870 in 12 gauge, with a cheap but effective red dot. But I never aim this thing anyways and it tends to hit 99% of the time within 20 feet.
I recommend that scope mount. I got it for 20$ on sale at Walmart. Great mount.

when there are no kids around i kinda like having a 13 in chefs knife under the couch(its only 2 feet from the f.door). Would rather throw it and run for the guns than jump on somoene with it

This is some passive but effective HD, but my parents have some kind of mutant bushes with 3 inch long thorns under all the windows in the front and back yard. You can't even get close to a window without getting destroyed by these darn things (I say from experience trying to put up their hurricane shutters). Combined with a nice dead-bolt, there is no way anyone is getting into that house without making enough noise to wake up the dog. I once fell off the back of a truck into a pile of razor wire while setting up a FOB, and let me tell you that pain was right on par with those demon bushes. I don't know what species of plant it is, but I'm sure you could go to the gardening section in Home Depot and find something like it.
