Differences between 7.62x51mm and .308
Are the diferences the same as for 5.56 and .223? That is a common comparison but I never see 7.62 to .308 compared but people seem to refer to them as the same.

.308 is 7.62x51

Bottom line is that 7.62 and .308 are the same round. Military cases have a thicker internal web, so the case capacity is a bit less than commercial .308 cases. If you try to put a hot .308 load into a military case you could have a problem. Factory loaded .308 and 7.62 ammo is 100% interchangeable.
