Scope a 1911 without drilling it?????
I've got a Kimber 1911 in 45 ACP that I want to put a red dot on, but I don't want to drill and tap it. I've tried the mounts that replace the grip and don't care for them.
Is there something that would mount in place of the rear sight??? I'd also like it to be a 1 - 2 MOA dot. Any ideas???? |

I don't think so. With an autoloader it almost has to be attached to the slide to be accurate.

Glennster-
The grip-panel mounts are usually a pretty good mount, but they are not the most attractive mount in the world. With a 1911, putting a heavy scope on the slide is not a very good solution. It can be done, but you will struggle with it for the rest of the time you own it. I have an Aimpoint rail for sale if you want to buy it. It has a Weaver-style rail and a dovetail that fits in the rear sight dovetail. For first-hand advice, PM Hunter Customs on this forum, he is in the custom 1911 business.

Scorch,
I've got a buddy that bolted a Pro Point II to the slide on his Kimber, it's worked out quite well for him. Maybe he just got lucky with a main spring and a load combination that would cycle properly. I would like to know more about the rail you have for sale, would it fit in a Kimber Classic Target Rear Sight Dovetail??? You can email me at: [email protected] Thanks! |

jmorris,
That's real close, the problem with that system is the dot size. I really like the 1 MOA dot for Bulls Eye shooting, otherwise, what you proposed is a great system. Thank you for the suggestion. |

With the Cmore sights you can change the dot module (two screws), I’m not sure if the Dr sights have the same capability or not.
