They're completely different powders. It's not very technical.

Thanks for the different responses. I want to load .357sig for a glock 31. Is there a preferred bullet and manual that I might start with? I bought 100 Hornady xtp 124 the other day. Seem a bit pricey though.

Thanks,
john

I mostly use sierra bullets so I load mostly from the sierra manual. I also have a nosler manual.

I have more than a dozen reloading manuals, I have several thousand Nosler bullets of various calibers so it is understandable my go to manual is the Nosler. My second choice would be Hornady because they cover a couple of calibers that are usually ignored (307Win & the M-1 Garand). Ken Waters pet loads would be my third choice with Sierra a distant 4th. As someone mentioned I like the ABC's of reloading for a newbie. William

I cut my reloading teeth on Speer and have stuck with it. Have others also, but I always buy the New Speer for my benchmark.

I have ~ 50 reloading manuals, thanks to ebay and gunshows, I have some 60 years old.

I don't use any of them anymore.

I get a starting point from Quickload.

Then, in guns stronger than the brass, I work up my own loads.
Then in guns weaker than the brass, that is the load, no work up.

Kinda surprised no one has mentioned the Lee Maunal. I find it useful as it contains load data for a very broad variety of bullets.

I would say the Sierra, but I really like the little one caliber books....for having several of the well known manuals excerpted into one small handbook.

Speer, Hornady, Sierra, Nosler etc I have a small collection, but I reach for that little book usually.

Chemical differences and slight difference in burn rate, but very close and of course Hodgdon is an extruded powder. It is strange since Hodgdon does not really make any powder but just repackages it. But markets both IMR and Hodgdon powder as well as Winchester Powders.

Don't know if one is from Austraila and the other from FL or both from the same place. I don't think the FL powder factory is still DuPont or Olin or another company by now.

Both are good powders by the way.

John, there are only a few 9mm bullets out there that will seat correctly for the 357 Sig without a concern of set back. Spending a few pennies more to be safe should not be a big deal for any reloader, I know I am cheap also.

Good Luck
Jim

Jim,
Is that a Hornady xtp? I'm trying to find them in 1000 lot.
