Uspsa revolver

I would like to shoot in the revolver division of USPSA, but my revolver is a Taurus with barrel ports which would put me in the open division. Is there any way of temporarally plugging barrel ports, so as to shoot in the revolver division?

I do not know a safe way of temporarily plugging the excess holes in your barrel.

Is your club so hard nosed that they would not let a new shooter use a non-compliant gun to get started with?

If you could shoot in Revolver do you think you would win?
If not, why not go Open?

Yeah, the rules are the rules, and yes I am trying to get out of investing in another revolver.(SHAME ON ME) But in my defense I normally do not compete in revolver, just wanted to give it a try and it would cost me several hundred dollars just in accessories in order to compete. Also I still have kids at home to raise and support. And for everyones comfort, my guns are always secured!!

I may not win in revolver, but I would at least like to be competitive. And I could not be competetive against race guns.

Oh well, we tried.
It looks like you are at an impasse.
Either be in open, change the barrel, which could cost a bunch, or buy another gun - even more money.
Hock a kid?
There might be a way to tap the holes for screws, but if it isn't done exactly right, there could be nasty results.
And the folks at the match might not accept it for possible safety reasons, even then.
Have you checked into changing the barrel to see if it's affordable?
They usually don't just screw in and fit right.
Of course, if the barrel is long enough, it could be shortened past the holes.
But then the front sight would have to be dealt with.
It might be easier than a barrel replacement.

If your shooting just for fun shoot what you have and don't worry about your place on the score board

I agree with the "go and shoot crowd". If they score you Open you are still getting better aren't you? I wouldn't recommend worrying about a new gun for at least a year. Most peoples first year shooting USPSA is a myriad of mistakes and learning experiences, you don't need a new gun for that.

Nice gun. But it doesnt look like it would take moon clips which I would need for speed loading.

With practice, the competition style speed loaders are about as fast as moon clips.
And the least expensive way.
But any revolver can be modified for moon clips.
Lots of .357s are, for using moon clips and rimless type rounds.
Or just get a .45ACP revolver.

I would go used for a Smith & Wesson. Here is a pic of two that I picked up used. The stainless is a 4 inch model 67-1 chambered in .38 Special. Price was marked at $325. I got a deal with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. The other one is a model 28-2 6 inch chambered in .357 Mag price was $300 cash on the barrel head. Both are superb shooters capable of accuracy far beyond my ability.

Oh and with speed loaders I can actualy load as fast or faster than I can with moon clips. Grampa said "you get good with what you have, or you get dead."
