308 Pet Loads
I have a new Remington 700 308 and would like some input for a good starting load. It has 1-10 twist 24' standard barrel. I have 155 gr Sierra and 150 gr Hornady bullets on hand. I also have Varget H380 and IMR 4064 powders on hand.I load several calibers but am still new to 308.
Thanks roc1 |

I'd start with 44grs of Varget and 4064 because they are very similar in performance and burn rate. See which one your rifle likes. Both my 308s love the old Hornday 150 SP. Cheap, accurate, and deadly.

MY Rem 700 shoots the Hornady 155gr A-max great. I tried 180gr Barnes TSX and they didn't shoot very well at all.

MY VSF with Marty's load and data usually puts 5 shots in a 1/2 inch group at 200 yards.

My Savage 10FP/LE (24" barrel) likes 45 grains of Varget, 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, CCI 200 primers, & R-P Cases.

45.0 RL-15 and 155 AMax or 155 Palma. Both of my .30 Cal rifles with 10 twist shoot those better than 168s, they shoot good with 168s, but they both like 155s better.

Thanks for the info. I just purchased some Reloader15 and will get more bullets later and try to compare the 168 to155 gr Sierra and 165 and 150 gr Hornady and see which my Rem700 likes the best. So far the best I have gotten is .6 to .777 at 100 yards 3 shots. the reason for 3 shots is I am trying several loads and do not want to get the barrel to hot.
Thanks again roc1 |

what primers do you guys use? I just got set up w/ reloading stuff for my birthday Also, my decapper is not perfectly centered on the die (all lee stuff) so it tries to widen the flash hole, therefore requiring immense pressure, so i stopped on the first case once i realized this in order to not ruin the case. Any suggestions on what to do?
