Lol. I think calibre wars would be up there, along with gun A vs gun B, of any variety. I think the one that ruffles most feathers though would be, in calibre X suitable for game animal Y. 223 vs deer in particular. |

Well, I'm a fan of .40 S&W, and it gets extremely old how practically any time I mention anything having to do with a gun in .40 S&W, a few people just cannot stop themselves from posting something condescending/correcting/argumentative about me using .40, no matter how unrelated to the topic at hand their comment is. They simply cannot accept that I have reviewed the same evidence and ballistics tests as everyone else and have come to a different conclusion. It's like a table of vocal vegans at a dinner party. Awful. So for me personally that's the big one. Any variant of the caliber wars, really. 9mm is wimpy, .40 snaps like a stick of dynamite and is literally 0% better than 9mm, but .45 is God's own thunder. All so very silly.
On the whole, though, I'd say Glock. The brand engenders a truly stupid amount of emotion on both sides. You have the insanely diehard Glock adherents posting about the gun as if no other gun could seriously be a good choice. Across the aisle from them are the people who foam at the mouth and seem to think the Glock is a personal insult to firearm lovers and the human hand. Meanwhile, the Glock just sits there, a quality handgun and one of many good options.

The debate over the terminal effectiveness of .223/5.56 NATO as a combat cartridge usually turns into some sort of monkey poop fight.
Edit- Or the reliability of the M16/AR15 family of rifles.

My girlfriend, who rolls her eyes at my gun hobby, refers to all ammo as 'bullets'...and baby is never wrong.

Is the 22LR a good defense round?
Is the 223 good for deer? Is the Taurus Judge / S&W Governor good for defense? Is the Ruger GSR a good Scout rifle? |

Apparently .22-250 vs .243
7.62x39 vs accuracy And my least favourite TFL vs The Aussie that Swore too much! Oh and bumnote you'll find Winchester ballistic silver tips heaps better for vampires, lack penetration on werewolves though!

Anything with the words "Headspace" & "Lee-Enfield" in the same thread.

Within the gun-culture I think the biggest controversy (at the moment) is over open carry, and if open carry activists are hurting our rights or helping them by confronting hoplophobia.

Negligent Discharge / Accidental Discharge
There are many schools of thought that say ANY unintended discharge is a negligent one (even a mechanical failure). There's really no controversy about gun safety rules, so IMO this is just semantics and a reason for people to argue. |

If you warm up the Tardis you can go back to when it was whether the 308 is an adequate replacement for the 30.06.

Definitely another vote for "Glock vs whatever", and pistol caliber debates.

Colt Python. A Python posting never fails to bring out the S&W Fan boys telling you how great their Model 19/27/28/ Registered Magnum are and what a piece of crap the Colt is. S&W fans have no shame when it comes to a thread hi-jack.

Generally it's caliber.
Best caliber is the one the shooter can shoot most accurately with. Bullet placement is everything.
