Ruger MKIII Just Stopped Shooting Today
Well, I just returned from the range. I shot my MK III a whole two clips before it just stopped.
I took the magazine out and pulled the bolt back, but the hammer would not fall. It seems like either the hammer is not resetting or the trigger is not making the hammer fall. I just tried to take it apart but the main-spring housing will not flip out. My understanding is that the hammer must be down to flip it out, but I can't tell and in any case, it won't budge. When I look in the chamber, it looks like the firing pin might be sticking out of the bolt. Any ideas? I wonder how Ruger's service is..., this also makes me wish I had a buckmark. Blonde

Send it back to Ruger.
One question: how old is your Mk III? Is it fairly new? |

It is less than two years old. Probably has less than 1500 rounds through it. I wonder how much Ruger charges when one of their firearms stops working.

Here's a few things to check.
Did the trigger reset all of the way forward? Try popping it forward.....pull it back and let it pop loose. Crud or brass shavings can jam up that mechanism and keep the trigger from resetting. Are all of the pins seated in the side? The grips are supposed to keep them in place but if the grips are loose, broken or modified, a pin can back out of place. It only takes a tiny bit for it to jam up. Ruger has no charge for warranty work, in case you need to send it back. I have several of the Ruger MK series .22 pistols. The only thing to ever go wrong with any of them was one of them jammed up tight. The bolt wouldn't work, it wouldn't fire and the spring housing would not flip out. A tiny corner of the left grip had broken off and let the sear pin back out just enough to come unseated. The sear had cocked sideways enough to lock it all up. It was fine once the pin was back in place and new grips installed. Keep yer powder dry, Mac. Tuff-Gun Finishes. The Name Says It All. Mac's Shootin' Irons http://www.shootiniron.com |
