P-09 Duty pistols should be out for public release in late April or early May..

The new SDP Compact ( CZ CUSTOM's PRO-TEK concept taken to production)
will turn some heads as well.

While I love the look of the Dutys slide sans the front cocking serrations.

(WHHHHHHY!?!) I like my CZs, heavy, metal and with grip panels.

P.S. I love pics, but the huge poorly made ads for the forum are an eyesore.

I am a CZ fan but idk how excited I am about these guns. I'm not super stoked about the P-07 and giving it a longer barrel and grip really doesn't do much for me. The SDP is very pretty and has some nice features, but $1400? I'm sorry I just can't see paying that when I can get a stock P01 for <$600. Heck even ordered from the CZ shop with a trigger job and I'd have hundreds left over.

i always liked the look of the pro-tec, but i'm with tunnelrat. the price tag drove me away. i put up $1200 for the sp-01 shadow custom target, but for a carry gun, that price is very high.

Meh, agree with tunnelrat and the others. I don't see much of a difference between the polymer SP-01 Phantom, and P-09. In fact the Phantom is probably better. The P-07 is OK, but I'd still rather have the PCR or P-01.

There isn't much difference in size or weight, but the P-09 is available in .40 S&W (with a 15-round mag), and it has the Omega trigger system, which means it's convertible from safety to decocker. This seems to be a gun aimed at the LEO market as well as the private citizen market.

The SP-01 Phantom is 9mm only.

That's not to say that they COULD NOT have built a .40 version of the Phantom...

I suspect the P-09 is less expensive to build, and represents (along with the P-07) a new branch on the CZ tree.

I haven't seen or held a P-07, yet -- and it'll probably be a while before I see a P-09 in the real world.

I purchased the 9mm P07 almost on a whim. It was priced very nice, felt like it was made for my hand, & with my range membership discount I figured what the heck , I mean it is a CZ.

I have never had a gun grow on me like this one has. Every time I take it to the range it gets better. It really is a joy to shoot & it has an uncanny ease acquiring & staying on target.

My P07's primary function is home defense.

Most of the new CZ models are not CA certified.
I would have picked up a 09 or Phantom.

I have not seen a CZ in stock in the SF Bay Area
in my last 6 times to a Store/Range.
Two shops mentioned that they have they have outstanding orders from
2011 and 2012...

Is anyone else having better luck?

I am a huge CZ fan and have owned more CZ-75 variants than I can count. However, the SDP Compact and the rest of the Pro-Tek carry line are really nothing more than a tricked-out P01 (or PCR depending on model) at more than twice the price of the base version. I'm sure there's a market for them, but for that money you can build a true custom piece to your personal specifications, and have a few bills left for some nice leather to carry it.

When it comes down to it, all the current CZ-75 variants share the same limitations on concealability due to having a double-stack magazine. As I said, love them all but the whole family is on the chunky side especially for summer carry. Personally, my Dream Carry Gun would be a DA/SA CZ-75 Compact with alloy frame, no rail, and a single-stack magazine. Would obviously sacrifice capacity (8 vs 14 rds) but would shed significant bulk and weight. The end result would be something akin to the old Smith & Wesson 3913 but with CZ quality and design features. Now that's something I would stand in line for!

Totally agree with Peconga. I carry a 75D PCR daily, but would like a single stack, ALLOY framed RAMI or similar. I was going to get a RAMI, but in comparison to my PCR it doesn't do much as far a reduced size, all due to the double stack mag.

At one time, years ago, Bar-Sto made various conversion barrels for CZs. They stopped, out of what appeared to be lack of demand.

There are so many more CZ users out there, now, it's probably time for them to reexamine their unwillingness to make CZ barrels. (A number of CZ-40B users were love to have 9mm barrels, for example, as would some 75B in .40 shooters.)

Emails to Bar-Sto (and some of the other barrel makers) might help.

I've been waiting for a 97B. I hear this year's 97s have a redesigned ramp and an optical fiber front sight.

Yes, the 2013 CZ 97b has fiber optic front sight, new polished feed ramp (better for hollow points) and black alumuinm grips....looks beautiful. I purchased on last weekend, anticipate some range time on or about the 4th July, due my ammo inventory.

I think this thread is still fresh enough to not quite be a necro.

I am trying to figure out where the hundreds in savings would come in... MSRP may be $1400, but I just picked up an SDP for $1249.

So, let's see...

The SDP comes with Heinie Pro Straight 8 sights, which is one of the sight sets I have had added to other guns - I like them and Warren Tacticals.

So, figure $100-130 for the sights, depending on your sources.

The slide has to be milled for the Heinie sights. What does milling work cost in your neck of the woods?

Then, CZ Custom does a trigger job, including replacement trigger, springs, and hammer.

The aluminum grips are another $100 or so.

So I'm a bit perplexed as to where the theoretical cost savings would be, in doing one of these up as a project gun.

From my perspective, it is not so much doing one up as a "project gun", I just don't need all the add ons to have a perfectly reliable, accurate carry gun like my 75D PCR. The trigger is already light and crisp, and it has been shooting well for me for the last 13 years.

Pilot,

I have owned a stock CZ75 Omega, and a stock PCR.

I also own a couple Matt Mink P01s, and have just acquired the CZC SDP - but I won't get to shoot that until August (overseas again).

The Omega and PCR were good; the Mink carry pistols are noticeably better - no creep, no grit, less take-up. The Omega was phenomenally accurate, but had a lot of take-up. The PCR trigger just never agreed with my finger - trigger slap/sting.

Matt's pistols shoot beautifully, and feel good while they do it.

I am curious to see what Angus's work shoots and feels like.

(Edit: correction to the OP - the Pro-Tek and the SDP are NOT the same. The Pro-Tek has a different, anodized finish, and adjustable night sights. They don't look alike, either, due to the finish.)

I much prefer the P-07 to the P-09, but I tend to prefer G19 style frames to G17. Midsize/compact/4" barrel is my preferred size envelope.

I've picked up a nice XDm 45 Compact and a Kimber Pro Crimson Carry instead.

The RAMI is still on my short list but if it dosen't show up soon a Kimber Ultra CDP II will be taking it's place.

I did pick up a CZ 920 though, nice gun.
