Beretta 92S Date of Manufacture
Guys, I need some help. I have a Beretta 92S Italian Police buy-back that DOES NOT have the date code stamp (so please do not start flaming me with the date code conversions - I have that). It has a single line roll mark (as opposed to the more customary 2 line roll mark) on the right side of the slide stating "P.B. - MOD.92S - MADE in ITALY - PATENTED". The serial number is U10xxxZ. I understands that the U signifies a police contract and that the Z indicates a pre-1985 manufacture. Does anyone have a reference for serial number blocks sold on specific contracts, or any other detail that might narrow down the date this gun was manufactured? And no, it is not listed in Beretta's database... Thanks guys!

I bought my 92S in 1983, it has the same slide model#, etc and serial # is B8XXXXZ . It was a commercial purchase, but I used it for law enforcement work until I retired in 2011 (but still occasionally carry it). It's a nice pistol. I don't know if that helps any since the numbers don't match up well. But it was pre-1985.

Yes I did. I could reload itt faster than almost any other officer on the department. I used my thumb of my left hand to push the mag release button, and then push the fresh mag in. Worked like greased lightning my whole career. I was in one shooting on duty, but didn't have to reload.
